The Barrett MRAD

The new Barrett MRAD is looking very cool. Its design looks more akin to a autoloader than a bolt action. This video demonstrates its features ...

The MRAD will go on sale mid-year 2011.

I for one think it is pricy but there is so much that went in to it i love to shoot long distance currently i shoot a custom built super-match M1A and it is a fine piece of machinery but i want a 338 lapua M my M1A cost 4700.00 with night force scope sadlak mount rings and complete rifle but it is a different beast and it does not have interchangeable caliber or barrel for that matter i will not pay 6k for it but i will pay 5k so if it comes down i will go for it but i dont think 6k is a bad price i am just not wealthy enough to spend that kind of dough but in there defense i will say i will not build a 338LPM until i can start with this chassie this rifle is a 6 in one and i think you need to view it as so. just my IMHO

    GOOD JOB BARRETT.

6k. Right on the dot! If it was half I would think about it but then knowing barrett, they would charge 2.5k for each additional barrel and bolt! way overpriced imho!

I like the features of the MRAD-however-I am not too interested in a price above $4,300. I just had a custom rifle built with a custom bbl, action, stock and badger botton end, bipod and bedded for less than $3,100. If Barrett list this rifle at or above 6k-it is going to eliminate a large segment of shooters-in MHO.

Why, just because it’s built by Barrett does the price have to triple? I wanted a 98B in the worst way. Tried every deal that I could think of and some of these guys are super slick and know every trick there is to legally find and obtain a firearm. But the Barretts are so high and no one can discount them that I finally gave up. Best thing that could have happened. I ended up with a SAKO TRG-42 and would not trade it for five 98B’s. So there is such a thing as pricing yourself out of the market. I thought recently that I still wanted a 98B and after trying and seeing the Barrett mentality is still out there I dropped the Barrett forever. I’m sure their guns are great and all that but not for me. And not for alot of my friends who are used to firearms makers/dealers making a decent profit but not taking every dime you’ll have for the next five years, like the Barrett “Rifle of the Year” WILL DO. Keep them all Mr. Barrett. Your golden gun is out of my system, thank God. Hope all your profits do you good when you’r six feet under.

I have wondered why someone has not developed a similar rifle in 22lr. Kids being introduced to shooting could have a bolt rifle with all the “cool” factor. I know the Boy Scouts want their troops to learn on a single shot rifle… easy to do with a special single shot magazine. I don’t imagine Barrett will develop it… but how about the others… Savage, Ruger, etc.. I think the adjustable length of stock lends itself to youth configurations. I like the idea of an adjustable cheek piece too. I hope someone is paying attention. S&W and Colt have the AR styled 22s… how about a bolt action?

This rifle looks to be based off another Barrett rifle called the 98B, which happens to cost from $5000 to $6400. And considering this new rifle seems to have more improvements build into it, the price will be above the $6400 of the Barrett 98B line of rifles.

You’ll be needing some overtime shifts at work to afford this thing.

Somehow it looks less likely to snag on something than the MSR. I don’t know why, it just does. Not that it has fewer things to snag on, but it just looks cleaner like it wouldn’t snag.

Interesting design. Not sure how innovative it is, but it does look pretty slick. I question their choice in music. The tempo was much to fast for a video that slow paced. If they would have sped up the pace of the video (more firing, less zooming in on parts), the music would have fit it much better.

The secret will be the price….

If they can produce and market this rifle for $2000 for a single barrel version, and then an additional $500 or so for the conversion barrels and bolts, they can sell as many as they can build, assuming that they use quality barrels.

BUT…Its a Barrett, and I’m betting for a $3500 or better price tag.

At that price, its no killer bargain.

Looks like an AI product, and presumably in the same price range. Not sure where user interchangeable calibers aid for a tactical weapon, the need to resight the scope seems to make it a camp-only deal, and it’s not like you’re going to get your barrel hot enough to need a change with the same caliber with a bolt action.

One thing i don’t understand is why the stock folds to the right, locking the bolt. Wouldn’t there be situations that you want to work the bolt when on the move? Couldn’t they just as easily make the stock fold to the left?
