Gang member recommends public buy guns for protection

From The Buffalo News ...

"Buy a gun," a member of a recently busted inner-city gang told The Buffalo News last week when asked what could be done to curtail homicides. "Hey, I'm just being honest. You asked."

Tall and good looking, the young man half smiled, shrugged and seemed to disappear into his oversized winter coat.

...

Police officials don't agree with his advice to take up a gun, but they do say his description of most local gangs is accurate. The only problem is that these disorganized gangs sometimes hit their targets with deadly accuracy.

Of course the police don’t want you having guns.

That would make their job N/A…

The gun permit situation is better understood as a form of professional courtesy. Politicians are trying to protect others like themselves; criminals.

It’s a sad state of affairs indeed when the gangsters are telling the truth and the cops are not.

    WW,

Your permit situation really stinks and hopefully it will change one day soon. Here in Pennsylvania, we are a “shall issue” state. Permit processing is very quick. The last one I did took about 15 minutes and that was as a new application, since I’d recently moved into a different county. (Despite the fact I had another county’s permit since 1987!)

Having just written a research paper on the topic for college, I can assure you that the Supreme Court will almost certainly incorporate the Second Amendment in the Chicago case, which means that your NY problems will be sorted out.

I live in Buffalo and my house is right near the DMZ. In the summer, gunshots in the distance are as common as barking dogs on a hot summer night. The hood has been getting hotter and hotter every year. The irony is that my girlfriend just got her pistol permit after waiting 14.5 months for processing. All the hoodies have guns but God forbid that a good hard working honest law abiding person should be able to get one in a reasonable amount of time. I’ve had mine for 11 years now and even back then I waited about 7 months. I hope some recent SCOTUS cases reverse the “may issue” rule and turn it into a “shall issue”. Sadly, NY is a “may issue”, and as long as the issuing judge hasn’t had a bad day or doesn’t like your haircut you can get a permit to own a handgun in 12-18 months and a LOT of procedural hoop-jumping.
