I also have the 336 on my wish list, but due to time constraints had just about determined Henry would be the only acceptable option. The S&W comes a little closer to my dream so, if Ruger/Marlin does not put the 336 back out soon I'll be adding the S&W to my safe.

Ugh! To say the least. This horribly obsolete underpowered cartridge just won’t die. Lever gun manufacturers are listening to the wrong crowd on the 30-30…..lever gun buyers want the newer, better cartridges, but it seems the makers are stubbornly clinging to the very dark past.

There are no AR15 rifles chambered in that caliber, firearms makers are not chambering it in their bolt guns either, or carbines. Why?

    Lever gun buyers want 350 Legend, 360 BuckHammer, 350 Legend, 450 BushMaster, 50Beowulf, 400 Legend, 500S&W, 300 Blackout, 7.62X39.

What are you smoking? in the 30cal series, only one of those calibers is objectively superior to the 30-30. Why reinvent the wheel? At 40 on up, it's an apples to carrots comparison. You don't need to be a fudd to know that 30-30 has killed more living matter than all of those cartridges *combine* save combloc 7.62, and that's only true because its used in every war, not hunting game.
