United States Special Operations Command Chooses Speer Gold Dot G2
Speer Ammunition has been awarded a three-year contract by the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). Speer is to supply a maximum of 8.5 million rounds of their Gold Dot G2 duty ammunition, which got the highest-scoring performance in the FBI’s testing protocol.

USSOCOM ELR-SR (Extreme Long Range-Sniper Rifle) Solicitation
United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) just announced they are looking for a new ELR-SR (Extreme Long Range – Sniper Rifle) to replace their older anti-materiel and anti-personnel rifles such as the M107 and MK15 and will have a precision fire capability of 2500m.
US SOCOM Selects Geissele Automatics for MRGG-S
During a video introducing some new products published on 31 August, Bill Geissele announced that Geissele’s submission to US SOCOM’s MRGG-S (Mid-Range Gas Gun) program had been selected. The new rifle appears to have beaten out rival designs from other down-selected companies, including FN and LMT.
US SOCOM Extends Suppressed Upper Receiver Group (SURG) Contract for 5 More Years
US SOCOM is set to award SIG Sauer another 5 year contract to provide Suppressed Upper Receiver Groups (SURG). SIG Sauer were initially awarded the SURG contract back in July 2018. The SURG kit includes a piston-driven MCX upper receiver with detachable, rather than integral, suppressor. The FDE-coloured SURG kit also reportedly includes an MCX-pattern folding stock.
USSOCOM Selects SIG Rattler for Reduced Signature Assault Rifle
SIG Sauer were recently awarded a 5-year, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract valued at $5 million to provide the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) with a new Reduced Signature Assault Rifle. The RSAR will be MCX Rattlers chambered in 5.56x45mm and .300 BLK and will be equipped with SIG’s SL suppressors. The search for a weapon to fit the RASR requirement has been ongoing since 2017, it is currently unknown exactly what the RASR’s configuration will look like with barrel lengths undisclosed. SOCOM describes the RASR as a ‘PDW system [which] will allow Operators to have maximum firepower in a concealable weapon.’

SIG Sauer Rattler Wins US SOCOM Personal Defense Weapon Contract
SIG Sauer is set to be awarded a contract to fulfil US Special Operations Command’s requirement for a commercial, off-the-shelf, personal defense weapon (CPDW). A notice of intent from SOCOM to award a five-year Firm Fixed Price (FFP) contract was shared on 19 May. Following on from their recent success with the NGSW program, SIG Sauer’s MCX Rattler has been selected and will be procured in 5.56x45mm and .300 BLK. The contract also includes SIG’s SL suppressors.

Many shooters know of Horus from their family of reticles which are licensed out to various scope manufacturers, including big names like Leupold, Nightforce, and Vortex. USSOCOM Select Nightforce for Ranging – Variable Power Scope
Nightforce have announced that their Nightforce MIL SPEC ATACR 4-20 has been selected by the US Special Operations Command as part of SOCOM’s Miniature Aiming Systems – Day Optic (MAS-D) Program. The Ranging – Variable Power Scope or R-VPS will be mounted on current semi-automatic combat and sniper support weapons including the MK17, MK20, M110A1 and the yet-to-be-selected MRGG (Mid-Range Gas Gun). The contract award had previously been planned for the 4th Quarter of FY2020.

The US Army is forging ahead with the evaluation of the prototype Next Generation Squad Weapon rifles and automatic rifles and it has been confirmed that U.S. Special Operations Command is both involved in the program and watching its developments closely.
Nightforce Optics Selected as SOCOM's Precision-Variable Power Scopes
Nightforce Optics have been selected by the United States Special Operations Command and Department of Defense to provide scopes to fulfill the Precision-Variable Power Scopes requirement. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract worth nearly $54 million will be carried out over a fixed 5 year period.
