Steyr AUG: Five Things You Didn't Know About It
The Steyr AUG is an interesting carbine, and despite being quite a popular bullpup, is still relatively uncommon in the US as compared to AR and AK-style rifles. The Steyr AUG is still surrounded in mystery for many of us in the US market but, fortunately, we have Brian Marshall of the Steyr Academy to tell us five fun facts about this still futuristic system that you probably didn’t know.
POTD: Austrian Army – Sturmgewehr 77 A1 MOD (Steyr AUG)
The Photo Of The Day can be chosen for a variety of reasons, and bullpups are always popular. This baby is now 47 years into service, which is quite remarkable in itself. The StG 77 (Sturmgewehr 77) denotes the Austrian Armed Forces’ adoption of the Steyr AUG in 1977.
Heresy Design .300BLK & 9mm AUG Conversion Kits
Heresy Design has come out offering upgrades for the Steyr AUG. The most notable of these upgrades are their AUG conversion kits. They offer 5.56 barrels of different lengths but it is their .300BLK barrel and 9mm caliber conversion getting the most interest from AUG enthusiasts.

The Steyr AUG 24″ HBAR Barrel Is Back!
If you own a Steyr AUG and want your 55 gr 5.56 mm rounds to fly out with speeds upwards of one thousand meters per second (3280 fps), then turn to Steyr Arms USA as they now have the 24″ HBAR barrel available again. The price for the 24″ HBAR with Bipod is $725. Preferably pair it with the 42-round waffle magazine you most likely already own. Just beware that the barrel is not free-floating, so don’t put a lot of pressure on the bipod.
POTD: Austrian Soldiers in Ghana – Steyr AUG
Photo Of The Day: The silhouette of this Steyr AUG almost looks like an airsoft rifle. We’re in Daboya, Ghana, in Africa, and it looks rather hot outside – even without fur. The image portrays an Austrian dog handler, working with Ghanaian soldiers during an objective raid.
Austria Begins Issuing Upgraded Steyr AUG Rifles
The iconic Steyr AUG has been in service with Austria’s Bundesheer since 1977, and now the Austrian Ministry of Defense has announced a major upgrade for the rifles. In a statement, Austria’s Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner said that 14,400 modified Sturmgewehr 77 A1 MOD would be issued and that the value of the contract to Steyr Arms was more than 20 million Euros ($21 million).
POTD: Australian Enhanced F88 in Super Garuda Shield

How to Shoot Your Steyr AUG Better: 4 Tips
In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves is at the Steyr Academy with Steyr’s lead instructor, Brian Marshall, to discuss – what else – the Steyr AUG. However, the AUG is so different from the AR-15 that new Steyr AUG owners can’t just pick up the AUG and run it like their AR – there are tips and tricks to handling this platform that you can only pick up from the guys at Steyr. James interviews Brian to give you four tips to handle your AUG like a pro.
POTD: Uberschweres Maschinengewehr M2
“If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough.” That’s probably the most common mistake in photo taking, but in this case, I think the photographers did an excellent job. Just imagine the blast from what the Austrian Army calls the Überschweres Maschinengewehr M2, or üsMG M2 for short. The rest of the world calls it the Browning Machine Gun M2, in caliber .50 BMG.
POTD: Falkland Islands Defence Force Shooting Historic Weapons
Photo Of The Day: The Falkland Islands Defence Force is the Volunteer Military Unit first established in 1892. The Force is fully funded by the Falkland Islands Government and works closely with British Forces to provide defence and security to the Falkland Islands.
POTD: Austeyr F88 Line Thrower in Royal Australian Navy
TFB’s Photo Of The Day and we’re looking at Seaman Boatswains Mate Hayden Sleath as he fires the line thrower projectile from HMAS Anzac to HMAS Sirius, during a replenishment at sea. The rifle used is an Austeyr F88 and the photographer managed to catch the projectile just at it leaves the ship.
