Review: Michiguns MOACKS Plain Gas Key Staking Tool
Ever had a gas key that came loose? I know I have, especially with some of the bargain prices bolt carrier groups that I have bought over the years. The Michiguns MOACKS Plain is designed to allow the home gunsmith the ability to stake the gas key screws properly without expensive machines. This particular BCG is an IWI that I purchased on closeout and hasn’t come loose yet, but it is a matter of time in my opinion.

Much todo is made of the “quality” of staking jobs on the AR-15. Why this is so is absolutely beyond my comprehension… (other than shooter being particularly picky about aesthetics of their rifle). Don’t get me wrong, I completely support the deformation of material for when pins and springs are not holding it in place, but good gracious it can be over the top. If the material is impinged, it’s going to do its job.
New Bolt Carriers With Integral Gas Keys By Voodoo Innovations
Here’s an idea: Making AR-15 carriers with integrated gas keys. Of course, if you are just milling carriers out of round stock on a horizontal machine as in a military BCGs, then this would considerably increase the amount of material you need to hog away to create a carrier. However, if you are making the carriers from scratch yourself, as manufacturer Voodoo Innovations is, then this may make some sense. From their press release:
