POTD: U.S. Conducts Training with Senegal Armed Forces

Over a century ago there was a growing number of magazines published throughout the world.  There was an increased demand for photographic illustrations for the magazines to be competetive. With time the cameras developed and became lighter, cheaper and easier to use. We all know that was only the beginning, as lenses, motor drives, electronic flash and things like auto-focus developed in the 1960s and into the digital era, with all its potential. Just imagine what the Internet has done to things like deadlines for a photographer. No more time wasted in a dark room full of chemicals, with an uncertain outcome. Fast forward to today and we have another Photo Of The Day, from a remote location in Senegal.

Tavor And Galil Rifles Plus Jericho Pistols Come to Senegal

Recent photographs have revealed that the Armed Forces of Senegal have acquired large amounts of 5.56x45mm NATO Tavor X95 rifles. Specifically, it appears that two distinct Senegalese forces are using the rifle at present. The first being a special operations component of the armed forces. This was first shown about a year or two ago while troops were on parade in the capital of Dakar. At TFB we’ve taken a number of screenshots from the parade (separate from previous Youtube link, viewed here). The Tavors seen on parade are actually older Tavor CTAR Flattop rifles with 380mm barrels that are in either black or tan finishes with mounted MEPRO MOR reflex sights.

Colt Capitalizes on Foreign Military Sales Program

In a recent announcement, the U.S. Government has released a 7 million dollar award modification notice for Colt Defense’s over 35 million dollar contract to provide M4 and M4A1s in the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program. This modification notice specifically mentions the countries of Georgia, Lebanon, Iraq, Slovakia, Pakistan, and Bahrain.This latest modification tacks on another 7 million dollars for the additional countries, specifically mentioning the number of 8,730 M4/M4A1 carbines. The numbers bring this to around $800 per carbine, but we assume the actual cost per rifle is much lower with the extra cost being taken on by other equipment.
