Last weekend we flipped through the paper to bring you another edition of Suppressors Ripped From the Headlines. The weather continues to be non-compliant with range activities, so live fire remains on pause. Instead, I hopped in the car and drove to a large firearms and outdoors store to have the experience of buying suppressors retail. What did I learn? Let’s find out.

In 2018, Dick’s Sporting Goods halted sales of “ assault weapons” in all retail locations, citing the shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, as the reason for the move. The company also raised the purchase age of firearms to 21 and stopped selling “high capacity” magazines. Today, Dick’s will now end gun sales in 125 of their 700 total stores. Removing hunting rifles and ammunition, the only gun-related products remaining at the 125 effected stores, will make room for other “in demand” merchandise. The move apparently hurt stock prices as well as slumped a yearly profit forecast. At the time of this writing, the company had already removed hunting rifles and ammunition from ten locations.

Those who expected the slump in the gun market to extend to the buyingest day in the year will be surprised: Black Friday, November 24 shattered the record for most NICS checks in a single day by over 17,000, reports USA Today. The total? 203,086 background checks processed, up from 185,713 in 2016 and 185,345 in 2015.

Brownells has been a trusted source for gunsmithing supplies, gun parts and more recently ammunition. Brownells has been serving the shooting community for over 75 years. Earlier this year they dipped their toes into the gun market when they opened their 7,000 sq. ft. retail store in Grinnell, Iowa which sold guns alongside the gun parts and accessories they sell online. When that store was announced we should have predicted that they were getting ready to sell guns online. Today they launched Brownells.com/Guns which has an incredible amount of firearms listed for sale. There are 1,337 handgun models, 1,513 rifle models and 688 shotguns models.

According to The Blaze, the FBI Processed 144,758 background checks on Friday. The actual number of guns sold would be even greater than this because of sales with delayed background checks such as online purchases …

The search interface on gun auctions sites tend to be terrible. GunWatcher.com is a new site that allows you to easily search GunBroker, GunsAmerica and a variety of online retailers. It is very bare bones, but seems to work well for the searches I did.
