Titanium Parts Now From DS Arms
The “race to the bottom” in terms of AR weight has been heating up for quite some time, now hitting boil. Fantastic sub 5 lbs rifles are available from 2A Armament with other production manufacturers not too far behind. Lightweight components are now available from major OEMs including pencil barrels, lightweight carriers, carbon fiber handguards, and a multitude further.
Robar Hints At Lightweight AR-15 Using Titanium Components
Earlier here at TFB, we mentioned in an article regarding some new developments in metallurgy that titanium has not traditionally been used as a material for firearms manufacture due to the difficulty and expense of working it. This is true, but it’s also true that techniques have been developed that substantially help reduce the time and cost of working titanium, and one recent product of gun manufacturer Robar being shown off at RecoilWeb is proof of that: An AR-15 using polymer upper and lower receivers, and some titanium components that tips the scale at just four and three-quarters pounds. New Titanium Bolt Carrier Group from BoomFab
A new company to the weapons industry, BoomFab has announced the release of their first product- the TiTane Carrier. The TiTan is a CNC Machined bolt carrier designed for competition use. At only 4.4 ozs. with the gas key (standard carriers are about 9 ozs.), BoomFab claims that the TiTane carrier “results in faster shot recovery, increased cycling speeds, and minimized muzzle movement.”
