POTD: French Snipers With Leupold Mark5 HDs

What a great Photo Of The Day! This is from the 2024 International Sniper Competition where Sgt. Paco Casas and Sgt. Benjamin Jean-Jourdaine from France fire their rifles at their assigned targets. This is during the “TI-89” event on the Galloway Range at Fort Moore, Ga., in April 2024. It looks like they’re using firearms from their U.S. friends, with the Barrett MRAD and M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System. The scopes are Mark5 HDs from Leupold but with different magnification ranges.

New Leupold RX-5000 TBR/W – The Modernized Rangefinder

Since their debut about 25 years ago, hunting-oriented laser rangefinders have become almost an essential tool for any long-range shooter or hunter. TFB Review: Leupold Mark 5HD 2-10X30 Scope

This past August I was lucky enough to be invited out to Beaverton OR to take a tour of the Leupold factory with a number of other outdoor journalists. After the tour, we were all taken to the Leupold Optics Academy to test out some of the scopes we just witnessed being constructed. We got to play around with many different scopes from different manufacturers in early lighting situations. The two scopes we primarily used for the three days at the Academy were the MARK 5HD 7-35X56 and the subject of this review, the MARK 5HD 2-10X30 M1C3 FFP PR1-MOA.

The U.K. might be considered the Old World by us Americans, but the U.K. Royal Marines are on the absolute cutting edge with their newest DMR. Specifically, the Royal Marines have adopted an LMT AR-10-type rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor with HUXWRX suppressors and the Leupold Mk5 HD – a wonderful combo.
The Royal Marines, along with the British Army’s Rangers, also recently selected the KAC KS-1 as the L403A1 Alternative Individual Weapon.

Leupold Optics Academy – Day 2 & 3

The start of day two at the Leupold Optics Academy began with us confirming our 100 m zero on the Seekins Precision Havak HIT Pro rifle. We would then run a course of fire similar to the previous day, but this time it was at a much more rapid pace. This course of fire was also taking place earlier in the morning with the sun directly facing us. I’m happy to report that even with a lot of sunlight hitting the front of our optics, seeing down range was still really easy with these Leupold scopes. Of course, it really helps when you have an extended hood on the front of your scope as well.

TFB Review: Leupold BX-T Binocular With Range Finding MIL-L Reticle

Earlier this year, Leupold Optics relaunched their BX-T binocular that features a mil-rad reticle for ranging targets. I happen to like binoculars and work on range estimation, so I immediately requested a sample from Leupold. Some people would easily write this off given the proliferation of laser rangefinders, but hunters and precision shooters know that atmospheric conditions don’t always provide a clear path for lasers. Thus, the Leupold BX-T binocular offers a lower tech, analog option to still get rounds on target.  Let’s see how they fared.
