FMK Firearms is set to unveil a NEW series of Elite Race Pistols to the public at SHOT Show 2018. They will boast what they are calling an Elite Trigger, textured frame with a shock absorbing back-strap and a beveled magwell. The premier component of these pistols though will be the slide. It is custom designed with a cut-out for a Vortex Venom or Trijicon RMR to go directly on it, it takes Glock® compatible iron sights and it employs front and rear slide serrations as well as the slide top being hollowed out for balance and curb appeal.

Considering the fact that I am a lover of polymer, the absence of manual safeties and my ammo choice starts and ends with the number nine, I’m not exactly sure that I am the best choice to review a 1911 pistol. On the one hand, although I can appreciate the elegance and the history of Browning’s design, I couldn’t imagine carrying a single stack pistol for any sort of serious work. On the other hand, I will try to bring an outsider’s point of view to a pair of guns that are both beautifully crafted and function as described. Today we will be taking a look at the Springfield Armory Range Officer Elite 1911 pistols in both the full size ‘Operator’ and ‘Compact’ versions.

Springfield Armory has just announced the release of four new 1911 pistols in their popular Range Officer series. Dubbed the RO Elite, the new guns each feature a number of upgrades at affordable prices. Served up in two caliber options, shooters can either opt for the best all around pistol cartridge to ever walk the earth or pick 45 ACP. Kidding, kidding. But seriously, the answer is always 9mm.

Now buying a Ruger AR-556 Elite complete lower is a factory option thanks to the new addition to their product catalog. When Ruger started shipping the stripped lowers, consumers were scooping them up quickly. Given Ruger’s reputation, it comes as no surprise that there haven’t been any reported issues with the stripped lowers.

Normally, I would roll my eyes at the mere mention of yet another celebrity-edition firearm, but I hate to say it, Larry Vickers’ Elite 1911 from Wilson Combat i s almost exactly as I would customize one a 1911 handguns down to the color scheme. As such, it may just be a reasonably priced Wilson Combat, all things considered ($3,850 base price).

After having spent a week at the SIG facilities back in June I really didn’t expect to see many new guns. Well I was wrong there were many more handguns than I expected.
