HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Fresh Tactical or Terrible to Table?
Welcome everyone to the 129th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal? Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.
Remington 1100/11-87 Shotgun Tactical Conversion called Devastator
Elite Tactical Advantage makes a tactical shotgun called Devastator. Basically, it is a tactical conversion of Remington model 1100 and 11-87 semi auto shotguns. They tune or replace the majority of parts of the basic shotgun. However, what is the most interesting is the way they redesigned the recoil spring mechanism to get rid of the recoil spring tube. This allows mounting AR-15 style stocks on a side folding mount.
POTD: Remington 7188 Full Auto Shotgun
Loose Rounds posted this on their Facebook Page. It is a Remington 7188 used in Vietnam. According to Gun Wikia it is a modified Remington 1100. I imagine the recoil would be somewhat brutal but could be mitigated with backboring and porting like what Vang Comp does to their 870s. 480 rpm is a rather slow rate of fire and might not be too bad if set up properly.
Patterning Your Home Defense Shotgun
Steve Fisher, aka Yeti, of Sentinel Concepts and Jeff Bloovman of Armed Dynamics, compare different loads in three different shotguns. They use a Robar Remington 1100, Benelli M1 Super 90, and a NEF H&R Pardner Pump. They show how the same loads can have different patterns out of different shotguns.
