SIG Sauer’s latest generation of the MCX now has its own Rattler model. The MCX-Rattler LT combines the features of the LT family with the compact size of the Rattler. How does it differ from earlier Rattlers? Let’s find out.

In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves is at SIG’s headquarters speaking with Jason St. John about the new SIG MCX Raptor. The MCX Raptor is a shorter-barreled and more compact .308 (and likely a 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.8x51mm) platform. As Editor In Chief of The Firearm Blog – the best gun resource in the universe* – I’ve had to transition from an operational role to more of an administrative role when it comes to reviews. And because we have such a talented staff with a wide breadth of knowledge and experience, my new position is just as fulfilling. However, I don’t get as much time behind the barrel as I once did, and I am forced to stick to my passions. For me, those are silencers and ultra compact weapon platforms. Combining those two loves is the SIG Sauer MCX rifle and pistol platform – a system I believe is in many ways superior to the widely regarded AR-15.

Most of you guys will probably understand when I say I have a list of guns I’d love to own someday, but it’s always followed up by “if I win the lottery.” I have a few of those guns on my list but when I saw the new MCX Rattler from SIG Sauer, I felt like it was something fresh in the market and that was exciting to me. I checked it out at SHOT Show and NRA’s annual meeting last year. I always thought it was a useful system and again I was interested in shooting it. Thankfully, I found one and had the opportunity to buy it, so I did! Let’s get into what I think about it one year later.

Almost a year ago,  back in March 2017, US SOCOM posted a request for information (RFI) seeking proposals for conversion kits for M4A1 Carbine receivers. SOCOM sought a kit that would turn M4A1s into Personal Defence Weapons weighing less than 6lb, measuring less than 26 inches and chambered in .300 Blackout.

At long last, we have reached the last day in TFB’s 12 Days of Christmas – long guns. Originally, I had marked today as being dedicated to rifles. However, after compiling my list, I decided that I needed to open the category up to include firearms that are legally defined as pistols, but with a pistol stabilizing brace act more like rifles. ‘Tis the season for outdated laws and regulations!

Manufacturer SIG Sauer brought along their brand new MCX Rattler ultra compact 5.56mm and .300 Blackout assault rifle/carbine to the 2017 Association of the United States Army annual meeting. The Rattler is an ambitious design intended to bring a reliable extremely short barreled AR-type rifle to the military and civilian market. Historically, designing very short barreled gas operated rifles that function well has been a serious challenge, so the Rattler’s designers had a tall order to fill.
