In today’s episode, I’m joined by Jason B, the owner of Backup Tactical. Most of you will recognize Jason's company from some of the reviews we’ve done on his knives and aftermarket pistol parts. The knives are actually a recent addition to Jason's product line-up, created through a recent partnership with South Africa’s own Andre De Villiers of ADV Tactical Knives. Today, Jason and I discuss everything from his early days as a shooter and New Yorker to his current life as a Florida Man and innovator of forward-thinking aftermarket pistol parts and knives. The Out-The-Front (OTF) knife category continues to expand, and Backup Tactical is back for round two with the new Fat Butcher. After the success of the Stinger OTF, company owner and OG Florida-Man Jayson Bayne has once again teamed up with South African knifemaking legend Andre De Villiers (ADV Tactical) for an all-new design—the Fat Butcher OTF. This latest release brings a beefier, more aggressive take on their relatively new American-made automatic knife lineup while retaining all the precision machining, materials, and reliability that made the Stinger a standout, and also the addition of a few novel features that set it apart from every other OTF currently out there.

I think it’s pretty obvious why this one is named as it is. The Fat Butcher from Backup Tactical and legendary bladesmith Andre Devillers have just been announced as the second official OTF release in their combined knife line. Some of you will remember that the Stinger OTF was released just about a year ago, and I was actually very impressed with the build quality, reliability, and the styling of the knife. The Fat Butcher adds a whole new dimension to the blade style and even one or two other tricks that might make it worth picking up for the hardcore blade collector.

OTF (Out-The-Front) blades are insanely popular these days. While there are tons of low-quality, Chinese-made knockoff OTFs out there, one of my favorite Florida men, Jason Bayne, the owner of Backup Tactical, teamed up with knifemaker Andre De Villers to create the new, American-made Stinger OTF knife. Not only is the Stinger 100% American-machined and assembled, but it also boasts higher-quality steel, precision hand-fit assembly, and is available in four blade styles and four anodized finishes. Jayson was kind enough to send out a knife for me to check out and today we’ll compare it with what I already know about OTF blades to see how this one stacks up as a daily carry knife.
