Buying a Silencer? Clarity on What your CLEO Can & CANNOT DO
Recently, my Silencerco rep stopped by and we discussed the most troubling issues for consumers when buying a silencer. Some people do not like getting fingerprinted. Others fear the wait time or the tremendous paperwork. The most bothersome issue we see is the lack of clarity in regards to the CLEO (Chief Law Enforcement Officer).
TFB EXCLUSIVE: '41F Q&A' With The BATFE NFA Branch
After months of anticipation, the new National Firearms Act (NFA) rules and procedures are finally here. And as much as we have covered 41F and its predecessor 41P here at TFB, there are people that still have questions about the process. Like me, for example. So we figured, why not go to the source – ask the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) for clarification on the new processes to make and transfer NFA items. As it turns out, they were happy to oblige.
New ATF Forms Released Ahead Of July 13th Deadline
In what should not be a surprise to anyone by now, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) released the new National Firearms Act (NFA) forms that will be used to apply to make and transfer registered firearms as required by law. We have included links to the new forms as well as additional information on the definition of responsible parties below. Of note is the below listed deadline: forms submitted on or after July 13, 2016 must use the new forms and procedures. We hope to bring you additional details on the post-41F process in the days to come.
FIRST LOOK: Silencer Shop's 'Secure Identity Documentation' Kiosks
As July 14th is now only a few weeks away, thousands of NFA buyers are wondering what the new application process is going to entail. Suppressor buyers have the option of using Silencer Shop’s network of “Powered By” dealers to facilitate their transfers. And in a post 41F-world, that will include the use of a new Kiosk system that will take electronic copies of fingerprints for submission into the BATFE’s National Firearms Act (NFA) application process.
