[SHOT 2026] Black Rain Ordnance Introduce US-Made AK - Freedom Fighter
American-made AKs definitely saw a resurgence at this years SHOT Show with strong offerings from companies like Stenzel Industries and Black Rain Ordnance. Black Rain introduced the Freedom Fighter which they describe as ‘a modern American-made evolution of a proven fighting rifle’.
The Freedom Fighter is a 7.62x39mm AK with a milled receiver, a free-floating handguard and a proprietary folding stock. The 16 inch barrel is tipped with a Bro-Chinook (.30 cal) suppressor-ready muzzle adaptor for mounting one of Black Rain’s Chinook or Chinook XL cans. Other neat features include a Rifle Dynamics front sight / gas block combo and an additional safety selector on the left side of the receiver (making some of the weapon’s critical controls ambidextrous).

While the top rail isn’t monolithic and the Freedom Fighter retains the classic ribbed top cover it does provide much more rail space and allows for the mounting of lights and other accessories. The bolt and carrier are bother hammer forged and the barrel is nitrided.
A key feature I noticed instantly when handling the rifle was that it definitely didn’t have a stock AK trigger. Instead Black Rain are offering a choice of two CMC 2lbs triggers - a flat single stage and a Elite Yella Jacket curved trigger.
If you don’t subscribe to ‘nyet, rifle is fine’ then the Freedom Fighter might be the AK for you.
