TFB Review: Mesa Tactical Shockwave Heatshield

At SHOT Show in January, as I was subconsciously searching for a way to improve my Mossberg 590 Shockwave I ended up at the Mesa Tactical booth. Admittedly what drew my eye first was their accessories for Benelli and Beretta shotguns, but I was quickly drawn to their options for the 590 Shockwave and the Tac-14. Taking the leap I decided it was time to add some flair to my shorty fun shotgun. Enter the Mesa Tactical SureShell carrier and Rail, specifically the 94070. This one boasts a 6 shell capacity as well as an 18 inch top rail to mount lights, optics, or any other accessories. As well as two M-LOK slots, one on each side, for flashlight or a sling attachment. With the rail assembly being made from 6061-T6 aluminum it is as rugged and secure as any other mounting system on the market.

For today’s Photo Of The Day, we have pictures of the alpha wolf of Benelli’s bolt gun pack. The Lupo Alpha is a limited edition version of the Benelli Lupo rifle with only 1,000 to be made. The unique skeletonized furniture is made of a special high-strength technopolymer, which, in conjunction with the lightened action and pencil profile barrel, significantly reduces the weight of this .308 Win rifle. According to Benelli, the Lupo Alpha is the world's lightest metal-chassis rifle, weighing in at 2.6 kg, about 500 grams less than the standard version.

The Rimfire Report: The Henry Magnum Express Review

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report. In this series, we cover a lot of rimfire guns that are trying to be the jack of all trades. 22LR in particular as a cartridge lends itself well to this kind of job, as it's just lethal enough to be useful for small game hunting, while also being an affordable target practice, training, and plinking round for most people. 22 Magnum, on the other hand, is much more purpose-built, ideally finding itself in the hands of a skilled varmint hunter or land owner looking to remove a few pests from their property. Likewise, the Henry Lever Action .22 Magnum Express is a purpose-built firearm - meant to be a precise, quick, and lightweight 22 Magnum platform with small game hunting as its goal. Today, we’ll look at this great offering in the Henry Rimfire Lever Action to see where the value in this $600 magnum rimfire lies.

Best Gun Range Ear Protection

Several years ago, I started taking protecting my hearing very seriously. I was running loud heavy equipment for 10 hours a day and regularly shooting or hunting on the weekends. In my mid-20s, I noticed my hearing was already starting to be affected. When I transitioned to full-time writing and content creation, I was shooting more, and that meant I needed even better ear pro. Before writing the best gun range ear protection article, I tested numerous products at my gun range, spoke with other shooters (several of whom shoot even more frequently than I do), and conducted thorough online research to inform my top choices.

Vietnam’s Bizon – A Homegrown Take on a Russian Submachine Gun

When most people think of Vietnam and small arms, they picture battle-worn AKs carried through the jungles of the Cold War era. But half a century later, the country’s defense industry is no longer just a consumer of foreign weapons; it’s a creator. One of the most curious examples of this shift is the STL-15, a homegrown submachine gun inspired by Russia’s PP-19 Bizon. It is famous for its helical magazine, which was built not in Izhevsk but in Vietnam’s own Factory.

POTD: The FN LICC-IWS (Individual Weapon System) in .264 LICC

I haven’t tried one, and I guess I share that lack of experience with most of our readers, but the new FN LICC-IWS IPC should feel familiar if you know how to handle an M4A1. Yet it’s said to advance the platform with fully ambidextrous controls, an innovative takedown system, and a beefy, highly adjustable buttstock that can be configured to fold to either the left or right side for true user-selectable convenience. My biggest curiosity is the non-reciprocating charging handle system, which seems to look the same on both sides of the rifle.

Concealed Carry Corner: Stop Carrying So Much Junk

Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, we took a look at different personalities in the gun community and what they carry. If you happened to miss that article, be sure to click the link here to check it out. This week, I wanted to look at how some people carry way too much when carrying a concealed firearm. It's not hard to keep accumulating items until it just becomes overwhelming and you end up not carrying at all, which is exactly what you don't want. The key to success is carrying just enough to make it through the day without having any of the extra clutter. Let's take a closer look at how to stop carrying so much junk.

Rideout Arsenal Warns Customers of Scam Website

The Rideout Arsenal Dragon, released to the public just a few weeks ago, has quickly garnered a great deal of interest online. It is innovative, unique from many perspectives, it has polarizing looks, and it's a premium product. All this attention has brought an unexpected, and definitely unwanted, outcome: a fake website posing as the real one, with the intent of scamming potential customers.

Springfield Armory Model 2020 Heatseeker Gets More and Longer Barrels

Springfield Armory has been producing more and more bolt-action rifle offerings, which came as a surprise a few years ago since they were traditionally known for being a semi-auto rifle brand (M1A, AR-15, AR-10, etc). Now, between their Waypoint, Boundary, Redline, and Heatseeker they have quite the portfolio of accurate bolt-action rifles. Today, that family grows even more expansive as Springfield announced longer barrel lengths in their Model 2020 Heatseeker.

The system consists of three parts that work together to protect the scope from end impacts and incidental bumps. The outer cover and cap are made from a carbon fiber polymer that provides structural durability, helping to protect the lens and bell housing from hard objects or obstacles.

TFB Behind the Gun #190: The Future of FRTs with Desk Pop

Today’s guest for the TFB Behind The Gun Podcast is Joe from Desk Pop. Desk Pop is a rapidly growing channel that Joe started a number of years ago that focuses on more than just firearms reviews. Instead, Joe wants to get real hard-use data out of his equipment, which should, in turn, give consumers like us access to better data for what is essentially life-saving equipment for many of us on a daily basis. In addition to the testing and data, Joe also likes to have fun and isn't afraid to show it. Today, we’ll talk about that specifically in regard to the recent trend in the industry regarding forced reset triggers. Are they practical for the average gun owner? Probably not, but they sure are fun if you can get them to run properly! Everyone, please give Joe a warm welcome back to the show!

Q Factory Visit 2025

Back in 2023, while James and Ryan from TFB TV were visiting Q Rifles and interviewing Kevin Brittingham about the upcoming  Boombox Rifle, I managed to join them on their range day. With Q being located in Dover, New Hampshire, it was only a quick 3-hour drive for me to meet up with them all and shoot some pretty cool guns and write a story on the whole thing. Yes, I was present for the infamous “Hot Tub” video we filmed at Kevin's house, but I was also present for the dozens of beers we all drank at the meet and greet in Portsmouth that same night. Fast forward to the beginning of 2025, and I reached out to my buddy Liam at Q about trying to get another visit scheduled so I could create some content for TFB. Liam quickly put me in touch with Colin, and we hashed out the details on when they would want me to pop in.

Wheelgun Wednesday: Revolvers To Buy For Collecting

Let's take a closer look at revolvers to buy for collecting.

Recoil Control with Minimal Weight - The MDT Titanium Hunting Brake

MDT Sporting Goods has introduced the MDT Titanium Hunting Brake, a lightweight muzzle brake designed for precision hunting rifles and competition use in formats such as NRL Hunter. Machined from Ti-6Al-4V titanium, the unit weighs approximately 1.7 ounces (about 48 grams), placing it among the lighter options in its category. The four-port layout uses angled ports to counter recoil and muzzle rise, helping shooters maintain sight picture and observe impacts.
