JP Enterprises JP-5 Roller-Delayed Blowback 9mm Carbines Now Available
At the beginning of the current year, JP Enterprises teased a new 9mm pistol caliber carbine called JP-5. This is an AR-style carbine but unlike the majority of similar PCCs on the market that are direct blowback guns, the JP-5 is a roller-delayed blowback operated firearm … like the H&K MP5. This carbine is designed to combine the advantages of the roller-delayed blowback mechanism such as the low recoil impulse due to the lighter weight of reciprocating parts with the ergonomics of the AR-15. In the June 2021 edition of their BULLETin monthly newsletter, the company announced that after two years of development, the JP-5 is now available for preorder.
JP Enterprises @ TFB:JP Enterprises JP-5 roller-delayed blowback 9mm carbines feature steel-reinforced billet aluminum receivers with ambidextrous controls. The charging handle is a SIG MPX pattern one. These carbines are fed from 9mm Glock magazines. They are compatible with AR-15 trigger mechanisms, buffer tubes, stocks and pistol grips. The company also notes that these carbines are compatible with multiple MP5 operating system components. It’s not specified what MP5 parts are exactly used in the JP-5 carbine but we know from earlier BULLETins, that it uses standard MP5 locking pieces.
Speaking of locking pieces, JP Enterprises has incorporated adjustability into the bolt design by using locking pieces with different roller bearing shoulder angles. The standard locking piece has a 90° shoulder angle but they will also make 100° and 110° ones for the shorter barrels and an 80° locking piece for using with suppressors. This will allow fine tuning the carbine to any specific load or barrel length to have the utmost reliable and smooth cycling action.
JP Enterprises takes pride in not only the reliable operation of the JP-5 carbine but also in its extremely strong design. In May 2021 BULLETin, the company shared the following video which shows slow-motion footage of the carbine cycling what they call self-destruct rounds, 9mm ammo loaded hotter than proof loads.
JP Enterprises JP-5 carbines will be initially available in three versions called JP-5 All-Purpose Carbine ($3199), JP-5 Competition PCC ($3269), and JP-5 Steel Challenge Carbine ($3349). The company targets to start shipping these carbines by the end of the year. Next year, it will be also possible to configure a custom JP-5 carbine. Below you can find the pictures, manufacturer descriptions and tech specs of each of these three carbines.

I think JP has created a really interesting hybrid with a perfect combination of parts and design solutions borrowed from other firearms. I guess they could also relatively easily create a roller-delayed blowback AR-10 pattern gun using H&K G3 bolts and other components. Tell us in the comments section what do you think about the JP-5 PCC and roller-delayed blowback firearms in general.

Well if it is the HK style roller mass multiplication system it isn't delayed it is retarded. The bolt never stops or "delays", it moves as soon as the bullet leaves the case and never stops until buffing. Like all of the HK roller guns. The MG 42/MG 3 bolt IS actually locked to the barrel using rollers but it is a recoil operated gun. (Granted it also has a gas booster system that uses the barrel as the piston so it is properly gas boosted recoil operation.) There are true "delayed" blow back guns but those designs generally use a carrier and bolt geometry that does delay (stop) the bolt movement which is later picked up by the carrier as it moves further rearward.
Waiting for mine. Was supposed to go with the cmmg banshee but the ejector spring drama hasn't been addressed or resolved. Also hoping to get an SBR version of this someday.
Pre-order waiting is gonna drive me nuts in the coming months.
