New Caliber?… Federal Premium Releases Teaser Video for "More Distance"

Federal Premium released on their Facebook page yesterday a teaser video that leaves more questions than answers. It is a mere 6 seconds long with no audio. All that appears is a lone cartridge casing which does not allow you to discern the caliber. Along with that image is the phrase streamed “more distance.”

The same teaser video has also been circulated on Instagram and Federal Premium tagged a slew of industry giants: Savage Arms, LaRue Tactical, LWRC, JP Rifles, Seekins Precision, Q Suppressors, Masterpiece Arms, and LMT Defense.

This could be potentially Federal Premium having invented a new caliber they wish to unveil for everyone. With the increasing fan base towards 6mm and 6.5mm calibers Federal Premium may have thrown their hat in the ring and invented their own.

Some of the current starlets in the shooting world are the 6.5 Creedmoor (Hornady), 26 Nosler (Nosler), 6.5-300 Weatherby (Weatherby), .260 Remington (Remington) and the newer spin-off of 6mm Creedmoor (Hornady). By looking at that list, it makes you wonder why the 6.5 Creedmoor did not get called 6.5 Hornady, but that is a conversation for another day.

The teaser video put out by Federal Premium can be watched below. With its short duration, you may need to watch it a few times.

My uneducated, complete stab-in-the-dark guess is that Federal Premium is trying to take a slice of that 6mm or 6.5mm pie that everyone has been loving lately. Could we potentially see a 6.5 Federal cartridge this fall?…

The release date of this new caliber is set for October 16th, 2017 so stay tuned!

I'll be anxiously snoozing for this one. I doubt some one found a real use for the SMK 90.

I'm sick and tired of new calibers, good rounds like the 35 rem and 32 Win are going by the wayside to make room for these new rounds that offer nothing but shorter barrel life, its all about marketing and buying into it may make one of your pet calibers more expensive and harder to get.
