Weatherby has some new models in the Mark V bolt action rifle family. The Backcountry Guide and Backcountry Guide Ti rifles are ultra-lightweight guns made to be carried long distances.

Weatherby @ TFB:

The main difference between the Guide and Guide Ti is the receiver. As you may have guessed the Guide Ti features a titanium receiver, which cuts 0.4 to 0.5 pounds off depending on the caliber. All models are equipped with BSF barrels with tensioned carbon fiber exteriors for light weight without sacrificing accuracy. The Peak 44 Blacktooth carbon fiber stock also cuts down on weight. Total weights vary between 5.1 and 6.6 pounds, depending on the model and caliber.

Both models are available in a wide range of calibers, and some of those calibers are also available in left-handed configurations:

  • 240 Weatherby Mag (Left-handed available)
  • 243 Winchester (Left-handed available)
  • 257 Weatherby Mag
  • 6.5 Creedmoor (Left-handed available)
  • 6.5 Weatherby RPM (Left-handed available)
  • 6.5-300 Weatherby Mag
  • 280 Ackley Improved (Left-handed available)
  • 7mm PRC
  • 308 Winchester (Left-handed available)
  • 300 Weatherby Mag
  • 300 Win Mag
  • 300 PRC

The Backcountry Guide has an MSRP of $3,299, and the Backcountry Guide Ti MSRP is $3,799.

From the manufacturer:

“Weatherby, a renowned firearms manufacturer, proudly announces the launch of the Mark V® Backcountry™ Guide and Guide Ti, the latest additions to the popular Backcountry™ line of rifles. Starting at just 5.1 lbs, the Backcountry Guide Series sets a new benchmark for lightweight mountain rifles. These rifles feature shorter BSF carbon barrels and Peak 44 carbon stocks with factory-installed Spartan Precision mounts.
Peak 44 Blacktooth Stock with Spartan Precision Technology
The Peak 44 Blacktooth stock is engineered to be the lightest and strongest carbon fiber stock on the market. Each stock features a patented carbon fiber bedding block that engages the front recoil lug, transferring recoil force directly to the exterior shell, this results in reduced felt recoil for the shooter. The Blacktooth’s 3D Hex recoil pad further enhances recoil management by stretching the time component of recoil, turning a sharp kick into a gentle shove through its honeycomb structure. The forend features two factory-installed Spartan Precision Gunsmithing adapters for seamless use of their ultralight accessories.”

Years ago I owned two 1980s Mk Vs. One was in the 240 Magnum and the other .30-06. Both were excellent and regrat having to sell the, but was moving aboard my 34' sloop to live in the keys and not practical to have them in a 24/7 salt air environment. Did take my Mossberg 500 pistol-grip Mariner Version with Marinecote for anti corrosion. after about 12 years moved onto land and replaced the pistol grip with a speed-feed stock. I do miss those beautiful Mk Vs.
