TFB Behind the Gun #130: TFB's Top Guns II - Cop vs Helicopter Pilot

by Luke C.

We really hope you all enjoyed last week’s episode where we asked TFB writers Paul B and Adam S what their top 3 guns would be for a minimalist setup if you couldn’t have any other guns. However, even with an unlimited budget, and choice of any firearms in the world, both Adam, Paul, and virtually everyone else we’ve asked would have picked the same three guns. So this week I’ve decided to change the game up a bit and give our writers a bit more freedom to express themselves in their firearm choices. This week, and down the road we’ll be doing 5 guns with the aim of getting a bit more variety of firearms in the mix. We hope you’ll join the discussion this week with TFB writers Doug E and Patrik O as they go through their very interesting “minimalist” 5-gun setup.

TFB Behind the Gun #130: TFB's Top Guns II -Cop vs Helicopter Pilot

We're back in the studio again with some more of the TFB staff talking about their top picks for guns. Last week we kept things pretty restrictive, with only three guns. However, given that we also restricted people to "just those three guns for the rest of your life" it felt a little bit too predictable because most people in that type of situation would almost always default to "AR, Semi-Auto Pistol, Shotgun." With our two new guests TFB writers Doug E and Patrik O, this week, we're giving them two extra guns they can add to their forever collection, which should spice things up a bit. Today we'll hear the differing opinions on what 5 guns they'd buy if money wasn't an issue, and those 5 guns were the only ones they could have in their collection for the rest of their lives. It's a ridiculous question, yes, but also a fun one at that. So sit back, relax, and enjoy as Patrik O and Doug E discuss their "minimalist" 5-gun collection they'd own for the rest of their lives if money wasn't an issue.

You can yell at us in all caps if you disagree on any of our choices.

Writing while listening in a bank parking lot, simply to avoid interruption!

1: i was thinking about Mossberg 940, all because of minishells, then i realized if you go mag fed i think minis are a nonissue, so i would go with a 12ga mag fed bullpup…

2: Platypus, easy call, even with AWB’s and mag limits, being as i have dozens of g17 mags…

3: this is the first i want it back item, in the 80’s i bought a Sako heavy barrel varmint rifle in 308, beautiful piece, had an albino stock and could plant 5rds into a 3” ring at 600meters with irons.

4: second want it back, H&K P7, it was ser # in the 3800’s, needs no other statement.

5: i was Aircraft Armament by trade in the military, so my extravagant last piece would be a M28A1E1 Test Stand, a functional training/R&D item, a 100% functional mockup of an AH-1 turret System, capable of mounting and firing all turret guns used on an AH-1. M134 MG; M129 Grenade Launcher; M197 20mm 3 barreled gatling gun, and last but not least a 30mm Chain gun most commonly seen on an AH-64!

So much for pragmatic choices! Lol!

Other honorable mentions would be S&W M28 the highway patrolperson…same frame as the M29 but that matte finish that i really liked! Last would be a Heym Drilling, 12ga/22lr/9.3x74R just because! If i had to take an AR it would be an Aero M5 in 308 with a PA ACSS Prizm optic in 5x. Easy choices in Illinois (no suppressor hosts).

    End of listing…

11.5 in piston upper in 556.

Still have an incomplete M5 in my closet.

    Seriously stopping now…

Much more interesting with the multiple interactions!

B&T BCWC (because we can)(for the record P320 based), 2500$ compact folding PDW in 9mm…B&T USW was my fav for a long time up to the point where i got my Strike Modular chassis…320 based folding sbr!

    Stop no more…

For the record the M134 only requires electricity for the high speed drive motor, it can be fitted with a hand crank which allows for non powered firing! It can also be fitted to the M18 pod self-contained battery/fire control/magazine.

Aren’t PDW and SBR basically synonymous.

    Fun episode!

    Thanks..,

Out of curiosity, why the preference for the S&W 28 when the 327 or 627 gets you two extra rounds on the same frame?
