    1. TAURUS firearms- INTRODUCTION/ OVERVIEW

Taurus began their firearms manufacturing with revolvers, but also expanded to semi-automatic pistols as well.  Taurus offers revolvers in popular and commonly available calibers that allow for plinking, personal protection, as well as hard hitting calibers for hunting.  The semi-auto models are also available in commonly found calibers with small game hunting, self defense and target practice in mind. They have also produced rifles ranging from older style lever action and pump actions to more modern AR-15 style and pistol caliber carbines.  Their rifles can still be found for sale on the used market.

    3. HISTORY

Taurus’ history in firearms dates back to 1941 under the name of Forjas Taurus in Porto Alegre, Brazil.  In 1968, Taurus began exporting their firearms to the United States.  A short time later in 1970, Bangor Punta Corporation bought a controlling share of Taurus.  The company also owned Smith & Wesson at the time and the two companies shared technological information.  In 1977, Taurus was purchased by the original owners and sought to expand.  In 1980, Taurus bought the Beretta operation in Sao Paulo, Brazil, which led to them producing the PT 92 and PT 99 pistols.

Taurus established a U.S. based company in Miami, Florida in 1982 for ease of U.S. customer distribution and service.  Since then, Taurus has introduced provocative new firearms to the market such as The Judge, Spectrum and Curve, as well as useful and sturdy revolvers such as the Raging Bull and Tracker models. In 2019, Taurus USA announced it would move from Florida to set up manufacturing and administrative headquarters in Bainbridge, Georgia.
