1. TAURUS firearms- INTRODUCTION/ OVERVIEW
Taurus began their firearms manufacturing with revolvers, but also expanded to semi-automatic pistols as well. Taurus offers revolvers in popular and commonly available calibers that allow for plinking, personal protection, as well as hard hitting calibers for hunting. The semi-auto models are also available in commonly found calibers with small game hunting, self defense and target practice in mind. They have also produced rifles ranging from older style lever action and pump actions to more modern AR-15 style and pistol caliber carbines. Their rifles can still be found for sale on the used market.

2. PRODUCTS/ MODELS- TAURUS FIREARMS
Taurus has a number of revolver lines that are named, or numbered. Some of the named series are the Judge, Raging Bull, and Tracker. Taurus’ revolvers come chambered in .17 HMR, .22 LR, .380 ACP, 9mm, .45 Colt, .410 Shotshells, and .44 Remington Magnum.
More than a decade since it was first introduced, the legendary Taurus Judge® still rules. Today, it’s available in more than a dozen models. Capable of chambering both 45 Colt and 410 shotshell, it’s the original five-shot game changer.
Chambering the popular and powerful 44 Magnum round, the Taurus Raging Bull® 444 Multi is still among America’s favorite hunting handguns. Built for a lifetime of tough use and with an overall weight of just 27 oz., the Raging Bull 444 Multi is a 6-shot revolver that features fiber optic front sights, a crisp trigger break and smooth pull for accuracy, cushioned grips and factory porting to reduce felt recoil.
The Taurus Raging HunterT is a 44 Magnum, 6-shot revolver. Its striking Stainless and Blue two-tone finish is enough to grab the attention of any big-bore aficionado, but the optics-ready Picatinny rail and angular barrel design will seal the deal. It is also available in a Matte Blue for those seeking a more classic look. The unique barrel system incorporates a steel sleeve that is inserted into an aluminum housing that cuts down on the overall weight, making this a well-balanced hunting sidearm.
Taurus’ Tracker models come in several different variations of calibers, barrel lengths and finishes; The 992 (.22LR & .22 Magnum), the 627 (.357 Magnum & .38 Spc), the 44 (.44 Magnum & .44 Spc) and the 17 (.17 HMR). All feature a unique rubber ribbed grip, although other wood or rubber grips are interchangeable. Some Tracker models also feature barrel porting for quicker follow up shots.
Exceptionally rugged and reliable, the Taurus Tracker® 627 is designed to handle everything it delivers. Its factory tuned ported barrel with gas expansion chamber reduces the mighty recoil in order to maximize shooting comfort. A proven design combined with the patented Taurus Ribber Grip® means you’ll have no trouble handling the Tracker in the field or on the range.
Exceptionally rugged and reliable, the Taurus Tracker® 44 is designed to handle everything it delivers. Its factory tuned ported barrel with gas expansion chamber reduces the mighty recoil in order to maximize shooting comfort.
The Taurus 856 is a reliable 6-shot, 38 Special revolver that features soft rubber grips-making it comfortable to shoot at the range while the double/single action increases speed and accuracy for follow-up shots. The 856 is offered in either a Matte Blue or Matte Stainless finish. Known for its easily managed recoil impulse, the .38 Special round of the 856 can accommodate ammunition ranging from light target loads to self-defense rounds. The DA/SA action and 2-inch barrel on the 856 optimizes on-body or off-body carry, and home defense usage.

Taurus’ history in firearms dates back to 1941 under the name of Forjas Taurus in Porto Alegre, Brazil. In 1968, Taurus began exporting their firearms to the United States. A short time later in 1970, Bangor Punta Corporation bought a controlling share of Taurus. The company also owned Smith & Wesson at the time and the two companies shared technological information. In 1977, Taurus was purchased by the original owners and sought to expand. In 1980, Taurus bought the Beretta operation in Sao Paulo, Brazil, which led to them producing the PT 92 and PT 99 pistols.
Taurus established a U.S. based company in Miami, Florida in 1982 for ease of U.S. customer distribution and service. Since then, Taurus has introduced provocative new firearms to the market such as The Judge, Spectrum and Curve, as well as useful and sturdy revolvers such as the Raging Bull and Tracker models. In 2019, Taurus USA announced it would move from Florida to set up manufacturing and administrative headquarters in Bainbridge, Georgia.
