TFB Review: The Modernized Browning A5 With An XS Sights Vent Rib
Designed in 1898 by John Moses Browning and later modernized and revived in 2014, the Browning A5 shotgun doesn’t just have a solid reputation for being a great waterfowl and upload game hunting gun, but also a rich history as a sport shooting and combat weapon during its early days. I recently had the chance to review a new-production Browning A5 shotgun that had been fitted with XS Sights’ aftermarket photoluminescent vent rib sights. In stark opposition to XS Sights’ tritium-powered night sights, their photoluminescent sights provide end-users with a more cost-effective low-light option that still provides a boost to sight visibility, without the unnecessary ultra low-light capabilities (I don’t think anyone is waterfowl hunting in the dark). Today we’ll talk a bit about the Browning A5 shotgun, how it’s evolved over the years, and also see what the XS Sights Universal Standard Dot Shotgun Vent Rib does to improve the legendary Browning A5 semi-automatic shotgun.
TFB Review: Improving the Colt King Cobra's Performance with XS Sights
The Colt King Cobra is one of the more recent additions to the highly popular lineup of Colt Double Action revolvers. Like all of the other snakes on the plane, the Colt King Cobra features high-quality construction, impeccable mechanical reliability, and all of the sleek lines of the Python, just without the vent rib. While revolvers may not be my most frequently used handguns, I still have a lot of fun shooting them at the range because they’re just cool and very fun to reload and operate. XS Sights has been constantly adding new types of sights and sighting accessories for virtually every platform out there, including Colt’s entire line of revolvers. Today we’ll be discussing some of my recent experiences after getting a chance to test out a Colt King Cobra that featured XS Sights’ Standard Dot Tritium Revolver Night Sights.
XS Sights: New Options For Rossi Lever-Actions
As manufacturers crank out lever-action rifles to the North American shooting market (see Hop’s thoughts on that here), eager buyers are discovering something: Old-school buckhorns aren’t exactly the easiest iron sights to master. Good news: XS Sights is here to help, and they’ve now turned their sights… errrr, they’ve just released updates for the Rossi R92 and R95 lever rifles.
Night Deagle: XS Sights Introduces New Desert Eagle Night Sights
XS Sights is pleased to now offer its new R3D 2.0 and DXT2 Big Dot night sights for the legendary Magnum Research Desert Eagle series of pistols. These Desert Eagle Night Sights will be made from the same durable materials that all XS sights are made with and will help you have either a solid backup or a primary aiming solution that works in a wider variety of lighting situations.
New Second Gen R3D 2.0 & Minimalist Night Sights from XS Sights
XS Sights has announced new offerings for SIG, FN, and Springfield pistols needing a new set of standard or suppressor height night sights. XS Sights’ second generation R3D 2.0 night sights, as well as their new Minimalist tritium sights, are now available for the FN 509, Springfield Hellcat, and XD series, as well as the entire lineup of SIG Sauer pistols including some of the older DA/SA models.
Winning Combo: XS Sights Lever Rail + Henry's Big Boy Lever Gun
The Henry Big Boy lever action rifle is a model that has deservedly gained a pretty positive reputation for not just being reliable, accurate, and durable, but also just plain fun to shoot. Henry makes these classic lever actions available in nearly all of the common straight-walled cartridges ranging from .357 Magnum all the way up to .44 Magnum. What is perhaps best about the Henry Big Boy series of lever guns is simply their value. Most of these lever guns can be had for about $900 or less and you’re getting an amazing combination of quality construction and reliability in a proven platform. However, these lever actions are quite limited when it comes to one thing – optics. Other more modern lever guns have started to incorporate integrated or factory-installed Picatinny rails for use with riflescopes, red dots, and sometimes even Laser IR devices for night vision hunting. Luckily, XS Sights sells a great DIY solution for replacing the factory iron sights on a Herny Big Boy rifle. Their functional and sleek-looking Lever Rail and Ghost Ring sights still preserve iron sight capability while adding some much-needed versatility to a dated platform.
Wheelgun Wednesday: Does Kimber's K6s 6 Shooter Need XS R3D Night Sights?
The Kimber K6s was dubbed the world’s lightest 6-shot .357 Magnum revolver at the time of its launch and has only been succeeded slightly by the ever-so-slightly smaller K6s revolver. However, what the K6xs lacks is a true rear iron sight. Last time we did an XS Sight review we took a look at the Taurus 605 Defender with the dedicated Taurus front Glow Dot. Like the K6XS, the Taurus also doesn’t have a true rear iron sight, instead, both pistols have trench-style rear sights which can be difficult to get a solid sight picture on if accuracy is your goal. In stark opposition to both of those revolvers, the K6s features a replaceable and drift adjustable rear iron sight and XS Sights just happens to make their XS R3D Night sights for that particular platform. So today we’ll be talking about those and see what advantages or disadvantages they might offer you should you choose to make the upgrade over the standard sights that the K6s ships with.
Wheelgun Wednesday: Putting XS Sights on the Taurus 605 Defender
.357 Magnum revolvers are kind of like 1911 pistols – despite being obviously outdated and outclassed in many cases by modern concealed carry options, they’re still loved and carried by many. Taurus’ 605 Defender is one such .357 Magnum option that fits in this category and also comes in at a bargain street price of just $400 for the matte stainless version. Released in 2022, the Taurus 605 Defender has had a bit of time in the market to earn a reputation for being reliable, lightweight, and accurate, with a bit of an excessively heavy double-action trigger pull. The Taurus 605 Defender already comes standard with trench-style sights built into the frame with an orange faceted night front sight. XS Sights wanted me to give the revolver a go with their revolver front sight. Seeing as I haven’t shot any .357 Magnum in a while I figured this would be a fun dive back into defensive revolvers for me so here we go!
XS Sights Introduces New R3D Kimber K6s Revolver Night Sights
XS Sights is proud to present its new R3D Kimber Night Sights for the recently updated K6s Revolver line which now includes the much lighter K6xs (for eXtra Small). These new sights offer a solution for Kimber K6s revolver owners seeking improved sight visibility and enhanced accuracy. Designed specifically for this compact stainless-steel firearm, this 3-dot tritium sight setup offers improved performance day or night even with the relatively short sight radius of the K6s. With XS’s proprietary Glow Dot technology and a wider front sight notch, the R3D sights ensure rapid target acquisition and precise shot placement.
Pushing for Perfection: XS Sights DIY Sight Pusher Kit & Meprolight Hyper-Bright Sights – Glock 48
One of my all-time favorite carry guns has to be my Silver Slimline Glock 48. I’ve had this handgun going 4 years now and I’ve carried it extensively more or less in its original configuration save for an aftermarket trigger shoe and a flared magwell. Recently I decided to give the OEM Glock night sights that were on the pistol a swap and to do that I worked with the guys at Meprolight to get a solid set of day/night sights to go with the Glock 48. Fast forward a couple of weeks and I had three new pairs of sights to pick from. To install them, I enlisted the help of recently released the XS Sights DIY Sight Pusher Kit, which is designed specifically for Glock pistols. In this review, I will share my experiences using both the XS Sights DIY Sight Pusher Kit and the Meprolight Hyper-Bright sights to see whether or not you’d want to pick either of these items up for your own home gunsmithing needs.
New Henry Big Boy Carbine Ghost Ring Sights from XS Sights
The Henry Big Boy Carbine series of rifles is one of the best options for those who like to shoot or hunt with these popular lever action rifles. However, the standard sights that come on the Henry Big Boy Carbines can leave a shooter with a sub-optimal sighting solution and that’s why XS Sights is proud to introduce their new Henry Big Boy Carbine Ghost Ring Sights for the .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum variants of the rifle. These ghost ring sights will feature fully adjustable windage and elevation, adding much-needed flexibility to the platform.
[SHOT 2023] XS Sights New RD3 2.0 & Sight Pusher
If you’ve ever dreaded drifting out a front sight or scratched up your slide while swapping out your pistol’s sights then XS Sights have the tool for you. At SHOT Show 2023, they showed us their new in-line sight pusher models; a DIY version and one designed for gunsmiths.
New Lever Rails for Henry Big Boy Carbines from XS Sights
The tried and true design of the lever-action rifle is still one that is a favorite of many shooters today for its reliability, and durability. The new meta with lever guns these days is adding various optics on top of the rifle but this was previously only possible with a handful of specific options. XS Sights has just announced their newest aftermarket sight offering with the introduction of their new Lever Rails for Henry Big Boy carbines chambered in .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum, meaning you can take these modern lever-gun offerings and pair them with modern optics.
XS Sights Introduces Two Glock Rear Sight Pusher Tools
XS Sights has been in the gun sight business for more than a quarter of a century, having been founded as Ashley Research & Development in 1996. They are best known for their modern semi-auto handgun night sights, including some tritium and photoluminescent options. In addition to these, they offer products for other firearm types as well, such as hunting rifles, shotguns, and more. Their product lineup has recently expanded further, now also offering two models of rear sight pusher tools for Glocks.
