We spend a decent amount of time traveling in vehicles, but the idea of carrying and storing firearms in your vehicle is rarely talked about. There are also a fair amount of misconceptions when it comes to how safe firearms are when they are hidden inside a vehicle. Let’s take a closer look at carrying in a vehicle and storage.

Over the last year and a half, there has been an increase in the number of vehicle burglaries among people I work with. Running my social media pages, I run into a ton of different people and become friends with people I otherwise wouldn’t have met.  Over the last year, I’ve had around 8-9 people I work with or know who have had their vehicles broken into and guns were stolen. One person who will remain anonymous, lost over $20,000 in firearms after a charity event because their vehicle was broken into. Now I would not be comfortable leaving a substantial amount of money in guns inside my truck unattended, but there are times you need space inside your vehicle to store a firearm.

One of the best things about being a gun guy and traveling is having the ability to meet great people and go on some fantastic range days. I’ve had a ton of fun meeting new shooters and having different perspectives at different range days. I’ve also had the opportunity to shoot a few amazing guns I would never be able to if I didn’t travel. It can be a peace of mind to travel with your concealed carry firearm. This is especially true when driving with family across the country. There are a few things to watch out for though when you’re traveling.

A proper storage solution for a firearm in a vehicle can be as varied as the people who use them. However, many of us must go to gun free areas such as schools, post offices or government buildings which can require us to disarm before entering. Many simply stow their firearm in the glove box or console – the first place a thief will look – others exit the vehicle and place their firearm in their trunk, drawing attention. Instead, let’s look at some better solutions for vehicle storage.
