Vang Comp Systems, a noted customizer of scatterguns, has a new model that’s not a shotgun. The new TAC-14 Deluxe is an “other firearm” according to the ATF instead of a “shotgun” even though it fires 12-gauge shotgun shells. Let’s take a look at why that matters.

Manufactured by O.F. Mossberg & Sons, the Mossberg 590 is a popular pump-action shotgun. It’s used by the military as well as in law enforcement applications, but it’s also popular for home defense and sporting purposes. As much as I like to poke James Reeves about the era of the shotgun being a thing of the past, he and everyone else continues to prove me wrong. Many of you may not be old enough to remember the days before the mass adoption of the AR-15 platform, but the shotgun was the long gun of choice for law enforcement and home defense for decades. The primary reason being that the 12 gauge shell in either 00 buck or slug, has devastating terminal ballistics within defensive scenario ranges. The Vang Comp Model 764 takes a standard Mossberg and adds proven features for short money.

For those of you not familiar with Vang Comp, they modify tactical shotguns. Last year I had them modify my Magpul Edition Remington 870.
