Photo Of The Day: When USS Carl Vinson, United States Navy’s third Nimitz-class supercarrier, was pier side in its homeport of San Diego, there was a salute to 100 Years of Aircraft Carriers at Petco Park.

On December 22, the US Navy reported that two days earlier it had intercepted a fishing vessel attempting to smuggle weapons through the Arabian Sea. On board, Coast Guard and Navy personnel found 226,600 rounds of ammunition and 1,400 AK-pattern assault rifles. While the vessel was stateless, the five men comprising the crew identified themselves as Yemeni. According to an  official Navy press release:

U.S. Pacific Fleet Public Affairs  announced on the 22nd May that the USS Portland (LPD 27) had successfully disabled an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) using an experimental Solid State Laser. The Technology Maturation Laser Weapon System Demonstrator (LWSD) MK 2 MOD 0 was tested onboard the amphibious transport dock ship on the 16th of May at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

What’s the best way to pass a line between massive naval vessels in rolling seas with the deck pitching? Firing it from a rifle of course! The US Coast Guard continue to use specially adapted Springfield M1903s, in service since the 1930s, for the job.

A US Navy destroyer, the USS Jason Dunham, intercepted a skiff in the Gulf of Aden and discovered over 1,000 AK-pattern rifles. The Arleigh Burke-class destroyer dispatched search teams to a ‘stateless skiff’ in international waters on 28th August.

US Department of Defence has published on their website a contract award announcement telling about a US Navy contract awarded to Trijicon for delivery of handgun reflex sights. Although the model of the sight is not specified, I think it is safe to say that the subject of the contract is one of the Trijicon RMR red dot sights. The US Navy and Air Force have confirmed their adoption of the compact variant of the US Army’s new pistol, the Modular Handgun System.

From weekend range warriors to the men and women that serve and protect our country, Federal Premium makes ammunition for everybody. Very recently they were awarded a domestic ammunition contract to supply the US Naval Surface Warfare Center – Crane Divison, operated under the U.S. Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command. This ammunition contract was in the amount of $20 Million over the course of 5 years. The contract begins this year in 2018 and they are expected to deliver .40 S&W frangible rounds, specifically with Federal Premium’s lead-free Catalyst high-performance primer.

Krebs Custom has introduced a new AK handguard set with M-LOK accessory attachment slots. We are used to seeing this company’s rails with KeyMod. In order to find out whether this new model means a launch of an entire line of M-LOK handguards or is it going to be a single model, I contacted Krebs Custom. It turns out that Krebs Custom plans to completely switch to M-LOK on all their products!
