US Navy Intercepts 1,400 Rifles in Arabian Sea
On December 22, the US Navy reported that two days earlier it had intercepted a fishing vessel attempting to smuggle weapons through the Arabian Sea. On board, Coast Guard and Navy personnel found 226,600 rounds of ammunition and 1,400 AK-pattern assault rifles. While the vessel was stateless, the five men comprising the crew identified themselves as Yemeni. According to an official Navy press release:
USS Portland Tests Experimental Laser Weapon Against Drone
U.S. Pacific Fleet Public Affairs announced on the 22nd May that the USS Portland (LPD 27) had successfully disabled an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) using an experimental Solid State Laser. The Technology Maturation Laser Weapon System Demonstrator (LWSD) MK 2 MOD 0 was tested onboard the amphibious transport dock ship on the 16th of May at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

US Navy Seizes Over 1,000 AKs from Boat off Coast of Yemen
A US Navy destroyer, the USS Jason Dunham, intercepted a skiff in the Gulf of Aden and discovered over 1,000 AK-pattern rifles. The Arleigh Burke-class destroyer dispatched search teams to a ‘stateless skiff’ in international waters on 28th August.
US Navy Awards Trijicon a Handgun Reflex Sight Contract
US Department of Defence has published on their website a contract award announcement telling about a US Navy contract awarded to Trijicon for delivery of handgun reflex sights. Although the model of the sight is not specified, I think it is safe to say that the subject of the contract is one of the Trijicon RMR red dot sights. Federal Premium Awarded US Naval Surface Warfare $20 Million, 5-Year Contract

Very recently they were awarded a domestic ammunition contract to supply the US Naval Surface Warfare Center – Crane Divison, operated under the U.S. Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command. This ammunition contract was in the amount of $20 Million over the course of 5 years. The contract begins this year in 2018 and they are expected to deliver .40 S&W frangible rounds, specifically with Federal Premium’s lead-free Catalyst high-performance primer.
