SHOT Show 2023 is in the books, and guess who didn’t die in Las Vegas? In this episode of TFBTV, Hop makes up some fake awards for SHOT Show and preemptively reviews products that didn’t exist two weeks ago. Welcome to TFBTV’s First Annual SHOT Show Awards (we will probably never do this again)!

New for 2023, Desert Tech has rolled out a number of small improvements to the MDRX platform. These changes apply to all models of MDRX and are incorporated in all rifles ordered going forwards, and in some cases can be retroactively applied to older models as well. Unlike James Reeves’ 60 year old bullpup of choice, the MDRX is still getting tweaked and improved… (but if anyone asks I didn’t say that).

New for 2023, Palmetto State Armory is bringing out new versions of the JAKL series of piston-driven, monolithic upper ARs. The new JAKLs will be available with rifle-length barrels, including some pin & weld options, and also in new calibers like 7.62x39mm and 9mm. The new JAKLs will use PSA’s in-house lower receivers; the KS47 that takes AK magazines, and the AR-V that takes Scorpion magazines.

American Tactical is well known for their extensive lineup of aftermarket accessories for virtually any type of firearm. This year at SHOT 2023 Luke C visits the American Tactical to get some details on their upcoming 22LR Glock conversion kit that is set to cost just a hair under $100 MSRP. This new type of conversion kit requires no recoil spring or magazine changes and comes with everything you need to get your 9mm Glock pistol converted to be used with the much less expensive 22LR cartridge.

In this episode of TFBTV, Luke C talks with the guys at LaRue Tactical about the much-awaited release of the Siete bolt action rifle. This rifle comes complete with your choice of two quick-change barrels in the most popular hunting calibers of today with a guaranteed return to zero feature between barrel changes.

New for 2023, PSA is introducing a higher end series of ARs with nicer components and several upgrades out of the box. The new Sabre series rifles have features such as cold hammer forged barrels, improved controls and upgraded charging handles. They will also be available with milspec style forged receivers, or billet receivers with improved ambidextrous controls.

New for 2023, Palmetto State Armory is expanding its AK lineup to include some atypical calibers including .300 Blackout, and 6.5 Grendel. They are also introducing a more faithful Krinkov style AK which will be available in calibers other than just .300 Blackout. The 6.5 Grendel AK is an extension of the AK 556 lineup they introduced last year, which takes STANAG pattern mags and has a few AR style features not typically see on the AK platform.

Palmetto State Armory recently acquired the Harrington & Richardson brand, and is working with NoDak Spud to make a new series of retro rifles with clone correct features and even historical roll marks. The head of this project is Mike from NoDak Spud, who probably knows more about cloning retro ARs than anybody else in the industry. Hop and Mike had a great conversation at SHOT Show 2023 about the first few guns in the retro series including an M16A1, a 723 style carbine, and a 9mm SMG clone.

Geissele Automatics showed up to SHOT Show 2023 with two new rifles chambered in the ultimate SPR cartridge: 6mm ARC. The competition-ready Stratomatch rifle and the tough and durable GFR (Geissele Freedom Rifle) RECCE.

In this episode of TFBTV’s SHOT Show coverage, Luke C is visiting Kirk at the Aero Precision booth to see their updated offerings for their new Solus rifle system that was first introduced at NRA 2022. Aero brought the Solus to SHOT 2023 with a whole host of new accessories and options including Aero’s very own in-house chassis for the Solus as well as barreled action options for those who want to build out their own precision rifle.

SHOT Show 2023 has officially declared 2023 to be the Year of the Modern Lever Action, and POF USA is part of the zeitgeist. The new POF Tombstone has a traditional Henry style lever action, married to a modern aluminum receiver and handguard. It also feeds from the same detachable box magazines as the POF Phoenix PCC.

Rock Island Armory’s new 5.0 pistol is a new design and made in the US at their new factory in UT. The pistol has an ultra low bore axis and a square barrel surface for improved slide lockup. It’s also hammer fired, with a trigger feel more like a traditional metal framed single action pistol.

Black Rain Ordnance is typically known for their custom ARs and eye-catching Cerakote jobs, but they also had one of the most innovative new products of SHOT Show this year. The Commando rifle is a new bullpup battle rifle chambered in full power battle rifle cartridges like .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor. Attention was paid to ergonomics and controls, and keeping the overall system weight down. It’s still early in production, but this is definitely one to watch.

New for 2023, Midwest Industries has released a refreshed lineup of AK accessories and upgrades. The new Alpha series parts lineup includes new handguards and optic mounting systems, as well as their new modular folding stock. These parts can be used to fully modernize an AK, or to add a bit of capability to a classic one.
