Is Textron Out of the NGSW Program?

According to a number of sources, Textron may no longer be part of the US Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) program. If this is indeed the case this would mark a significant turning point in the NGSW program, with Textron’s entry being based on mature LSAT and CT technology which had been developed over the past couple of decades. It would leave two submissions: the LoneStar Future Weapons/True Velocity (formerly General Dynamics’ weapon) RM277 and SIG Sauer’s SPEAR and MG6.8.

Textron Systems' NGSW Prototypes Seen During Maryland Governor's Visit to Textron Facility

A visit by Maryland’s governor, Larry Hogan, to Textron Systems’ Hunt Valley facility near Baltimore, MD gave us some fresh photographs of Textron’s new Next Generation Squad Weapon program prototypes. We have two photos, one of a Textron employee discussing the program while holding Textron’s NGSW-Rifle prototype and another showing both the NGSW-R and NGSW-Automatic Rifle prototypes.

Exclusive Interview with US Army Next Generation Squad Weapon Program Leaders

[SHOT 2020] Textron's NGSW Rifle On Display at the HK Booth

This year’s SHOT Show was the first to have models representing all three of the US Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapon program prototypes. SIG Sauer had prototypes on display at their stand (which TFB got our first look at back in September at DSEI 2019) and both Textron and General Dynamics had models on display at their partner booths.

The Army's Next Generation Squad Weapon Will Feature Smart Gun Technology

The United States Army is on track to select a defense contractor in 2020 for its Next Generation Squad Weapon. Defense contractors General Dynamics, SIG Sauer, and the Conglomerate Textron have been narrowed down as the three finalists for next year’s contract award. The United States Army is making the requirement for a “smart rail” system to be equipped on the weapon. This technology is a communication and power interface between digital technology and the physical gun.

First Photo of Textron's NGSW Prototypes

The first photo of AAI/Textron’s Next Generation Squad Weapon prototypes has emerged. The NGSW-Rifle and NGSW-Automatic Rifle were photographed at Fort Benning, Georgia, during the Annual Maneuver Conference at the Fort’s Maneuver Centre. The 2019 Maneuver Warfighter Conference was held over two days, 10-12 September, and was attended by dozens of vendors specialising in small arms systems, accessories and equipment. One of Textron’s submission partners, Heckler & Koch, were also in attendance.

Textron Delivers Their Next-Generation Squad Weapon Technology Demonstrator

Textron have announced the delivery of their first Next Generation Squad Weapon prototype to the US Army, the first of five to be delivered. It should be noted that the prototype is in fulfillment of what is now being termed the Next Generation Squad Weapon-Technology (NGSW-T) award, not the separate  Next Generation Squad Weapon-Automatic Rifle (NGSW-AR).

Details About Next Generation Squad Automatic Rifle Competition Contestants

A confidential source has revealed to TFB the current contestants that have passed the most recent phase of the Next Generation Squad Automatic Rifle Competition (NGSAR). This phase is less of an actual competition between small arms prototypes but more of a theoretical feasibility of design concepts before any trials progression ensues. Results from this recent Prototype Opportunity Notice (PON) showed that out of ten industry contestants, only six were advanced to the next stage of the competition. These six companies are in order of most successful: Aircraft Armaments, Inc. Textron (AAI Textron), PCP Tactical (a division of PCP Ammunition), Sig Sauer, General Dynamics Ordnance & Tactical Systems (GT-OTS), and two entries from FN America (labeled as Lightweight and Adaptive).

US Army Calls for Next Generation Squad Automatic Rifle Prototypes

The US Army’s Next Generation Squad Automatic Rifle (NGSAR) program is moving forward with a Prototype Opportunity Notice scheduled for publication later this week. The US Army Contracting Command has issued a draft Prototype Opportunity Notice (PON) for the NGSAR. Before the PON is issued the Contracting Command is looking for feedback on its draft PON from industry partners. The Army has previously held industry days for the NGSAR programme. Feedback is requested no later than 8th March, making the publication of the final PON imminent.
