#TavorSAR

We at TFB were fortunate enough to get a preemptive sneak peek of a lot of the firearms and sweetness that is present at SHOT Show Industry Range Day. Part of that was seeing in the flesh (err, bare metal) the NEW Tavor TS12 12 Gauge and the Tavor 7 .308 win rifles from IWI.

If you ever wanted to buy a Tavor SAR bullpup now is the time to act. IWI US is phasing out the SAR for the X95.

Please excuse the poor pun. One of the rifles in the new Ghost in the Shell movie is based on the Tavor. Here is a display model Tavor SAR by IWI. As you can see it is completely transparent aside from the obvious parts that are not. I believe these were made to illustrate the function of the rifle but I have heard that they do not fire. I wonder if the shell would hold up to having real internals installed and fired? Probably not otherwise it would have been done by now. Still looks cool.

In the photo above, you can see the 9mm Tavor laying down next to a Sig Sauer MPX SBR. My friend Matt B. and I went to the range last Friday. The MPX is his. I tried his MPX and the 9mm Tavor on a five target steel plate rack. There was no clear winner. Neither gun was any faster than the other. Next up is to test it in a course of fire like those in USPSA.

Between the IWI US powerhouse bringing bullpups back to America, and the IDF upgrading their standard issue infantry rifle, the Tavor platform has gone through a number of iterations. Here we’re going to take a closer look at 3 variants, and the factory sighting systems they come with.

Now those in Maryland can have a Tavor SAR as well! IWI US is now shipping the Maryland compliant SAR with a 16.5″ barrel with 3.5″ muzzle brake, which makes it 1″ over the legal OAL.
