Aimpoint is often a name that is synonymous with the terms “expensive” and “high quality.” While many will more likely know them for just being plain expensive, I’ve come to recognize the Aimpoint series of red dot optics to be some of the best in the business in terms of durability, flexibility, reliability, and features. The Aimpoint Duty RDS was announced at SHOT Show 2023 and was billed as being a more affordable alternative to the more expensive Aimpoint Micro T-2. I’ve had a ton of recent experience with the Micro T2 through a couple of carbine classes I’ve been fortunate enough to take, and today I’m going to use that recent experience to compare it to the newer, and more affordable Aimpoint Duty RDS to see if the reduced price (MSRP of $499) is worth the reduction in performance that this particular optic offers.

I really want to Ceracote some of my rifles, but I lack the courage to commit and I keep changing my mind in terms of which rifle to start with and which pattern to paint it in. Too many choices, too difficult to back off the wrong choice and of course, the cost of the project itself has refrained me from ordering.

Soldier Systems Daily first reported on the Aimpoint M5 powered by AAA batteries almost a year ago. Oddly enough, it was spotted by an avid reader of SSD that noticed an optic being shown at a Diplomatic Security Service information seminar in Washington D.C.

General Thompson will certainly be remembered for his famous “Tommy Gun” or formally adopted as the M1928 or in its later blow-back only form the M1 Thompson. But what about Thompson’s other designs?

While it’s not really an optic, I was very impressed by the new ALG 6-second Optic mount during the Media Day at the Range. The ALG mount is compatible with Aimpoint Micro T1/H1/T2 or any similar size mini red-dot sight that uses the same Aimpoint Micro mounting screw pattern.
