I would never really have considered the Schmidt & Bender 1.5-8×40 STRATOS, but as I was reviewing the Pulsar Krypton FXG50 thermal front attachment I was in need of a rifle scope with low-to-medium magnification, at least 42 mm front objective lens (for the Pulsar adapters to fit) and a reticle suitable for hunting.

Bass Pro Shops has been in the process of attempting to purchase Cabela’s for quite some time. That deal finally has come to a close to the tune of roughly $4 billion. Many employees of Cabela’s were informed this would occur through informal meetings on Friday, September 22nd. Now the general public is privileged to the knowledge of the completed sale as well.

Schmidt & Bender is known for high quality glass, and their new line of hunting scopes is no exception. With their Flash Dot technology, you can get a red dot of varying brightness which is very useful depending on the weather. What was unique to this line is the new programmable illumination unit which has a one-touch button for “moon” and “sun” conditions.
