The Firearm Blog was the first ever to report about the Heckler & Koch 417P, as the first pictures appeared together with Concamo almost two years ago. Since then, it has been rather quiet – until now. To the best of our knowledge, the HK417P has now been adopted by the Jagdkommando of the Austrian Bundesheer as their Designated Marksman Rifle. Quite a subject for our Photo Of The Day.

Standing Guard – I guess everyone in the Military has done it once or twice? That is the subject of this Photo Of The Day, and we are looking at a soldier from the Gardebataillon (“Guard Battalion“) which is a ceremonial unit in the Austrian Armed Forces.

Photo Of The Day – Today we have some very rare firearms on display and in use as these American soldiers train to employ, maintain and engage targets.

The AUG, short for “Armee-Universal-Gewehr” (universal army rifle), was designed in 1977 and was adopted by the Austrian Army as the StG 77 (Sturmgewehr 77) in 1978.
