When Government Issue Wasn't Enough: The Australian "B*tch" Variant of the SLR
Although the L1A1 SLR (FN FAL) service rifle served the Australian “Digger” faithfully for an extremely long period of time, infantrymen in the Vietnam War realized that the rifle could be “tweaked” to fit the combat that the soldiers had to fight in day after day. Undergoing field modifications that would be against regulations anywhere in the world, the troops did it anyways because it fit a necessary field requirement.
BOTW: 300BLK PDW
Third Installment of Build of the Week was contributed by Tony R. A pretty clean and straightforward 2-stamp build, with good component choices (IMO, that is). I don’t have any experience with Holosun, and personally am not a fan of top mounted lights, but this is not my build.
Nyet! Billet Is Fine! The AK Billet Stock from SLR Rifleworks
Hey SLR Rifleworks does not need no stinking low-cost manufacturing methods, instead, they have opted for the most expensive option to create an AK stock – milling it from a large block of billet material. Commonly, AK stocks are either mass-produced wood or manufactured from bended sheet metal. Arguably quite ugly, the sheet metal stocks have served the Kalashnikov platform well until now.
India Restarts Rifle Program (Again), Solicits for 7.62x51mm Rifles, Not 5.56x45mm
It feels like déjà vu: India has once again issued a Request For Information (RFI) for a new rifle, this time in 7.62x51mm NATO caliber. The RFI was reportedly issued on the 27th of September, making it two and a half months between the nation’s government announcing they were preparing the document, and actually issuing it. DefenseWorld reports on the RFI’s contents:
Arsenal Offers Factory Range Program
Respected AK manufacturer Arsenal is now offering a factory range program that will allow the Las Vegas based company to get their rifles into more hands than ever before. Specifically targeted at ranges with a rental program, Arsenal has designed the program to work hand in hand with their distributor program. Rifles eligible for the program are the SAM7, SLR-106, and SLR-104 variants.
A Beginner's Guide to Suppressors: Part 3
In part one and part two of the beginner’s series we walked you through the process of researching, buying and finally transferring a new suppressor from a dealer. We even gave you assignments along the way, like getting barrels threaded, buying a booster or picking out muzzle devices. So, let’s fast forward four to six (six to nine?) months when your paperwork comes back approved and start talking about the fun stuff: suppressor ownership and shooting suppressed weapons. Chances are that once you experience the world of suppressors, you won’t be able to go back to your old (loud) ways.
Cutaway FALs Galore!
Chuck at GunLab recently posted on a cutaway L1A1 British FAL; since I have been studying the FAL recently, I was naturally drawn to the post. Unfortunately, Chuck’s coverage is somewhat spartan, and the images fairly low resolution, so I went hunting for more. I found quite a few great images of cutaway FALs, which I have shared below:
