[SHOT 2019] New Products of Strike Industries
Our partnership with Strike Industries was an amazing experience from the very beginning of SHOT Show 2019. We hosted them at our range day booth and they brought one of those high-speed low drag Phantom cameras. Anyone at the range could walk into our booth, shoot a gun, have it filmed in slow motion and then receive his video at Strike Industries booth at the exhibition. This author didn’t miss that chance, too.
Slow Motion: Flintlock Musket vs. Plate Armour
Today, we often talk about body armour in both military and civilian contexts. Advanced modern body armour is now capable of stopping powerful rounds but the use of armour in warfare dates back centuries. Overmatch is no new concept. This week I came across a great slow motion video showing just how effective plate armour could be.
Slow Motion Bullet Race by The Slow Mo Guys
A popular YouTube channel called The Slow Mo Guys makes a variety of cool videos filmed with high-end slow motion cameras. Among their videos, there is a fair amount of gun-related ones too. Arguably one of the most interesting slow motion footages is to see the bullet in flight or hitting various objects. Who doesn’t like to watch these mesmerizing videos?
Glorious Slow Motion By Tac TV
Here is a video posted by Vaporwar on Facebook. It has some fantastic slow motion video clips of firearms being fired.
The Vaunted PKM Machine Gun – A Closer Look, from Forgotten Weapons
The Russian PKM: Arguably the best general purpose machine gun in the world, it combines a robust reliability with best-in-class light weight. Ian McCollum of Forgotten Weapons recently released two video overviews of the weapon, giving us a good enough excuse as any to spend some time with the Soviet showstopper:
See-Through Suppressor Filmed in Slow Motion
Destin of Smarter Every Day teamed up with Soteria Suppressors to film see through suppressors with a super slow motion camera. Soteria used a casted acrylic sleeve as the shroud for the suppressor, thus allowing the super slow motion camera to capture the muzzle blast and expansion inside the suppressor.
Bullets Versus Propellers, or Why Synchronizer Gears Were So Important in World War I – The SlowMo Guys
In World War I, the Germans developed a secret technology that helped them dominate the skies during 1915 and early 1916. The tech? A device that synchronized the firing of a machine gun with the rotation of an aircraft’s propeller, allowing accurate low-mounted forward-firing weapons on warplanes for the first time.
Splitting (Wax) Slugs with a (Cheap) Samurai Sword
Just when you think that Taofeldermaus is going to run out of things to shoot with things, he manages to find yet another absurd (yet utterly entertaining) thing to shoot with another thing. This time up, its a Katana or what looks to be a reasonably cheap knock-off sword taking on a 12 gauge.
Incredible High Speed Footage Of The Army's New Round In Gel
If you had any doubt at all about the terminal performance of the U.S. Army’s new M855A1 Enhanced Performance Round before, prepare yourself. YouTube ammo tester The Wound Channel has partnered with Aimed Research, who is providing the cameras needed to take ultra-high-speed video of bullets in flight. See the video below of the M855A1 EPR doing its thing to a block of Clear Ballistics gel under the watchful eye of a Phantom high speed camera:
The Wound Channel's Amazing High Speed Armor Penetration Videos
There’s a lot that can be learned by shooting different rounds at various targets, barriers, armors, etc, but the knowledge that can be gleaned from these sorts of tests is limited without the aid of very high speed recordings, which allow us to actually see what is happening when a projectile strikes a target. In recognition of this fact, YouTuber William of The Wound Channel has partnered with Aimed Research, a company specializing in very high speed footage for ballistic research. This gives TWC access to extremely capable Phantom high speed cameras, allowing him to capture high velocity 5.56mm bullets hitting armor plates in slow motion, like in the videos embedded below:
iPad vs. Gatling Gun – iPad Loses
FullMag, known for destroying all sorts of of high-end objects including smart phones from extended distances with smart-rifles, and shooting their own cameras with rounds nearly the size of the camera has released their latest adventure into ballistic tomfoolery.
Jerry Miculek & Son-In-Law Give Century AK's The Slow-Mo Treatment
In his latest blistering speed trigger-finger exersize, Jerry Miculek and his new son-in-law Blake take a pair of Century AK-47’s through their paces. Its an unusual video for Jerry as its more a review and history lesson, but is replete with his usual speed-shooting.
Waterloo Weapons In Slow Motion, By Royal Armouries
This past weekend was the bicentennial anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, where Napoleon was defeated by the combined armies of the British and Prussians, and which marked the transition of Europe into a four-decade-long peace that would only be interrupted by the Crimean War in 1853.
M60E6 "Pig" in Slow-Motion by Vickers Tactical
Vickers Tactical has posted up a video showcasing the M60E6 “Pig” in b-e-a-utiful slow motion. Not content to showcase only an original M60, Vickers Tactical had access to US Ordnances latest M60E6 variant. The E6 was just picked up by the Danish military and features US Ordnance’s Stellite-lined barrels for increased heat mitigation.
Samsung Note 3 Slow Motion Video
The Samsung Note 3 has a slow motion option in its video camera settings. It can shoot 120fps at 720P. Which is 1/4 normal speed at a basic high definition resolution. Here Aleksandra Mitrovic shoots a pickle with what looks like a rifle. Anyone recognize it? Looks like it might be an air rifle. With technology advancing everyday, hopefully we will see slow motion in more phones and cameras so everyone can make their own videos shooting things in slow motion.
