Elite Survival Systems has just announced the introduction of their new Lightweight Tactical Shooting Mat, a durable and practical gear option for outdoor shooting. These types of shooting mats are great for the flat range where concrete shooting bays may be hot or otherwise uncomfortable, or provide a barrier between you and other rough terrain out in the field.

With summer now in full swing, this is the perfect time to get out and do some long range rifle shooting.  Usually, this is where I find myself behind a cozy bench with a Range Safety Officer (RSO) nearby.  This is all good and fun, but it just doesn’t come close to shooting in the great outdoors.  Ditching a local range with its cozy bench is not without its downsides, and I quickly found myself in the market for a shooting mat and bag.  Lucky for me, Crosstac was willing to send over their Precision Long Range Shooting Mat and Saddle Bag Shooting Rest for review.

If there’s one thing you find you really do need a part of your kit if you’re a dedicated rifle shooter, it’s a shooting mat. Although there’s nothing wrong with getting down on the grass, in the dirt, and over the admittedly jagged edges of rocks, there are reasons beyond comfort for having a well-made mat. For example, some guns – especially those of greater weight – have bipods that will sink right into the dirt. It’s hard – no, impossible – to stay on target when your bipod is constantly behaving as though it’s resting atop quicksand. There is some shooting gear that just doesn’t receive the attention and press it deserves, and the shooting mat is one such product. It may not be exciting but it’s extremely useful; if you have ever found yourself without one when one was needed then you know just how useful they can be. Whether you’re shooting prone at the range or hunting prone in a field, a good mat is a must-have.
