POTD: Special Forces Group of the Peruvian Air Force
Welcome to back Photo Of The Day. Each day, we showcase at least one stunning image that captures the beauty of the world of firearms. Above you see a GRUFE (Special Forces Group of the Peruvian Air Force) Special Operations Defense member dry firing at a target with an FN SCAR-H rifle (with a Schmidt & Bender riflescope) from a FAP Bell 412 helicopter during a helo-borne sniper training mission in support of Resolute Sentinel 2024 at Punta Lobos Air Base, Peru, June 5, 2024.
TFB Review: Schmidt & Bender 3-20×50 PM II Ultra Short Riflescope
This is a review of the Schmidt & Bender 3-20×50 PM II Ultra Short riflescope, as a part of my mission to review all of the PM II models. I am very fond of the Schmidt & Bender 5-20×50 PM II Ultra Short, which is a perfect fit if you want to make your quality AR platform perform better. I own one, and I kind of wanted (at least) one more. Enter the Schmidt & Bender 3-20×50 PM II Ultra Short, which attracted me with its larger magnification range.
POTD: USASOC International Sniper Competition
Photo Of The Day and we go back to last spring to check on a competitor in the United States Army Special Operations Command International Sniper Competition, as he ejects a spent shell casing from his rifle after firing at a long-distance target at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, 2023.
TFB Review: Schmidt & Bender 5-45×56 PMII High Power Riflescope
This is a review of the Schmidt & Bender 5-45×56 PMII High Power Riflescope. I’ve reviewed almost all of S&B’s PMII riflescopes, and as the “top bird”, the 5-45x holds a special place. It was (and still is) my Holy Grail of riflescopes. The 9-power magnification range makes this optic quite extreme, as you can go from 5 power up to 45 power. Most of the time I use it around 20-30 power, but I love to have the ability to spot, observe – and engage – targets up to 45 power. I’m sure there are some disadvantages, as always within the laws of optics, but I wouldn’t say that stopped me from liking the overall performance.
POTD: RS Solutions – AI AXMC With Schmidt & Bender 5-45x High Power
Photo Of The Day – Any kind of sniping can be ever so challenging, but adding movement and wind from all sorts of directions must surely be as hard as it ever gets. Here we see an Accuracy International AXMC sniper rifle with a Schmidt & Bender 5-45×56 High Power riflescope. I don’t know much about the rifle, but I have the riflescope and it’s pretty sweet. Not sure how my stomach would cope with the waves, I’d probably have to sacrifice to Poseidon a few times.

NEW Schmidt & Bender 3-18×42 - All-Round Hunting Riflescope
The 3-18×42 is the newest kid on the block from Germany’s Schmidt & Bender. This is a compact and versatile riflescope that combines relevant features to make it a true all-rounder for your next hunt. The Schmidt & Bender 3-18×42 hunting riflescope also introduces Schmidt & Bender’s new “LPI” system, an abbreviation for the German term “Leucht-Parallaxe-Integriert,” translating to “Illumination Parallax Integrated.” This illumination control is seamlessly incorporated into the parallax adjustment, providing an improved mounting solution and facilitating easier use for left-handed individuals.
TFB Review: The Spuhr SICS (Spuhr Ideal Chassis System)
This is TFB’s review of the Spuhr SICS chassis (Spuhr Ideal Chassis System), or “6” for short. This high-end chassis was invented, designed and produced by Spuhr in Sweden. Having followed the project somewhat before its introduction, I know that the development progressed over a long period of time, and there were huge investments made to realize this project. Apart from the pistol grip, the cheek rest and the recoil pad, everything is machined from aircraft aluminum.
POTD: PGM Mini Hecate II with Schmidt & Bender 5-25×56 PMII
Photo Of The Day and we’re looking into the cleanest shooting range I have ever seen, don’t you agree? The “model” is the PGM Mini Hécate II, in PGM’s new shooting tunnel. The original design was for the 338 Lapua Magnum caliber, but it is now also available in calibers like 300 PRC, 300 Norma Magnum, 375 SwissP and similar to suit everyone’s needs.
POTD: Canadian Sniper with Colt Canada C20 DMR
The hungriest beast of them all on this blog is our Photo Of The Day. It consumes hundreds of images every month, and it has been doing so for the past 9 years. A rifle not seen too often, here’s the Colt Canada C20 DMR.
POTD: Dutch Marines with Heckler & Koch HK417 in USA
TFB’s Photo Of The Day is on a mission to collect high-quality photos from the world of firearms, and what’s better than a few Heckler & Koch HK417 rifles at the sniper range? Above you see a Dutch Marine with Marine Squadron Carib, Netherlands Marine Corps while participating in the Exercise Caribbean Urban Warrior at a sniper range on Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, March 2023.
Schmidt & Bender + Scandinavian Arms = The Bargain S&B 5-25×56 PMII
Recently Scandinavian Airguns changed its name to Scandinavian Arms, with the aim to offer premium shooting gear to airguns as well as normal firearms. In this move, they expanded beyond the airgun market and acquired the JET-01 firearms chassis system and accessories from Long Range Design (LRD Sweden).
Precision Rifle Series: Gas Gun vs Bolt Action – Which is better?
In 2023 I’m going to give Gas Gun Precision Rifle Series a go in a few competitions, to see what a DMR-style rifle and myself can accomplish together. All the experts have always told me that gas guns aren’t accurate enough. Bolt actions are always going to be more accurate, period. Now, I’m not saying they are wrong, but I like to try things out myself. Preferably with help from friends. Our results can be found in this article, which is not intended to be scientific. Take it for what it is, a fun day at the range with some interesting discoveries. Can a gas gun beat a bolt-action in terms of precision, or is the author on very thin ice here? Let’s see!
POTD: Heckler & Koch G28 DMR with Terrapin X LRF
Photo Of The Day: Above you see a Heckler & Koch G28 DMR used by the sniper team from the German Bundeswehr. Note the Terrapin X Laser Range Finder, made by Safran, mounted on top of the Schmidt & Bender rifle scope. What do you think about placing an LRF in this position?
