AMMO Inc Gains Board of Directors Seat at SAAMI
SAAMI, (Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute) plays a vital role in the firearms industry by setting and maintaining standards for firearms, ammunition, and their components. As an association comprised of leading firearms and ammunition manufacturers, SAAMI serves as the authoritative source for technical expertise, safety protocols, and industry coordination that makes things like manufacturing firearms safe for everyone – not just those who developed the technology. Through extensive research, testing, and collaboration, SAAMI ensures that firearms and ammunition meet rigorous performance and safety standards, promoting responsible manufacturing and enhancing the overall safety and reliability of firearms in the sporting and commercial markets. SAAMI just recently announced that they’ve added a new board of directors seat for AMMO Inc – known not just for producing ammunition, but also for being the principal owner of the gun auction website Gunbroker.com. With this seat on the board of directors, AMMO Inc will have a direct influence on things like cartridge standardization.
21 SHARP – New Rimfire Cartridge from Winchester
SAAMI (Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute) have published cartridge and chamber drawings of a new rimfire cartridge called 21 Sharp which was developed and submitted for SAAMI acceptance by Olin Winchester. While this new cartridge uses a non-heeled projectile, it has a lot of similarities with the 22 Long Rifle. Let’s take a closer look at the design of the new 21 Sharp rimfire cartridge.
New SAAMI Accepted Cartridge: 400 Legend !?
The 350 Legend cartridge was introduced by Winchester Ammunition at SHOT Show 2019. It’s a .358-caliber straight-walled rebated rim AR-15 cartridge that became quite popular with many companies now offering firearms chambered in 350 Legend. Well, looks like its younger but bigger brother is on the way. SAAMI (Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute) have published cartridge and chamber drawings of a not yet announced round called 400 Legend (400 LGND). Let’s take a closer look.
SAAMI Specs of the 360 Buckhammer (360 BHMR) Cartridge
Pretty much every year a new cartridge is announced at the SHOT Show or right before it by one of the major firearms and/or ammunition manufacturers. This year, the company was Remington and the new cartridge was the 360 Buckhammer (360 BHMR). SAAMI Announces Suppressor Thread & Socket Drawings
Suppressors have become an incredibly popular firearms accessory in the two previous decades and have gone from relative obscurity to being at the top of almost every hunter’s and shooter’s wishlist. However, many suppressors use wildly different mounting solutions and as a result, you’ll almost always have to dip into a completely different mounting solution environment if you want to switch the type of suppressor that is currently on your gun. SAAMI is aiming to change that with the announcement that they’ve published Suppressor Thread and Socket Drawings in an effort to develop standards for firearm suppressors.
SAAMI Publishes 30 Super Carry Cartridge Specs
Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI) has published the cartridge and chamber drawings of the 30 Super Carry (30 S Carry). With the acceptance and standardization of this new cartridge by SAAMI, we now have precise data on its dimensions, ballistics and chamber pressure – specs, the combination of which is what makes this new cartridge interesting for the concealed carry market.
7mm PRC (Precision Rifle Cartridge) SAAMI Specs Released
One of the newest long-action cartridges to hit the market has just had its official SAAMI specs released. The 7mm Precision Rifle Cartridge (7mm PRC), has been the talk of the town in various internet firearms forums and chat rooms with many people who thought that the official specs would not be released until sometime this fall. However, we’ve got the specs now and it seems to be stacking up to be a very well-balanced cartridge for hunting applications.
SAAMI Announces Acceptance of New Rifle Cartridges
SAAMI has accepted several new rifle cartridges, including the 6.8 True Velocity Composite which pushes a 150-grain bullet to the velocity of 2,700 fps. You can check part of the layout in the schematics above. Hornady’s 6mm GT is another one as well as Weatherby’s 338 WBY RPM.

We’ve know for a while that Beretta was partnered with General Dynamics on their NGSW submission – the bullpup RM277. Well GD have divested to True Velocity and Lone Star Future Weapons but Beretta have confirmed their continuing involvement in the project.
SAAMI Announces Acceptance of Three New Cartridges from SIG Sauer, Weatherby and Winchester
SAAMI or the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute, have just announced that three new magnum cartridges have been accepted for SAAMI standardization. The newly accepted rounds include SIG Sauer’s 277 SIG FURY (the commercially available version of SIG Sauer’s Next Generation Squad Weapon program round), the 6.5 Weatherby Rebated Precision Magnum from Weatherby and the 6.8 Western from Olin Winchester.
SAAMI Announces New Affiliated Member Category
SAAMI or the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute is an association of the nation’s leading firearms, ammunition and component manufacturers. Founded in 1926, SAAMI is tasked with coordinating technical data, promoting safe practices in manufacturing and firearms use and creating and publishing industry standards for safety, interchangeability, reliability and quality. The institution has now announced that they will be adding a new membership category – affiliated members.
True Velocity Join SAAMI's Board of Directors as a Voting Member
True Velocity are joining the board. The Texas-based hybrid ammunition manufacturer is set to join the Board of Directors of SAAMI – the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute. If you’re unfamiliar with SAAMI they are an organisation, founded back in 1926, that creates technical, safety and performance standards for US ammunition manufacture. Made up of representatives from major US ammunition manufacturers, True Velocity’s joining of the board as a voting member is a significant achievement for the company that specialises in lightweight hybrid ammunition that makes extensive use of polymers.
6mm Advanced Rifle Cartridge (6mm ARC) – New Mystery SAAMI Accepted Cartridge
If ammunition is something that you are especially interested in in the firearms world, then you probably frequently visit the websites of SAAMI and CIP. While doing a research for another article, I visited the New Cartridge & Chamber Drawings page of SAAMI website and bumped into a new SAAMI accepted cartridge called 6mm Advanced Rifle Cartridge (6mm ARC). To my knowledge, by the time of writing this article, no company has announced this cartridge yet. Possibly, we’ll see it officially released in the near future. Meanwhile, let’s examine the 6mm ARC SAAMI drawing and see what kind of cartridge this is.
Wilson Combat's 300 HAM'R is Now a SAAMI Standardized Cartridge
A couple of weeks ago, Wilson Combat announced that their 300 HAM’R cartridge has been standardized by SAAMI (Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute). And a couple of days ago, the actual drawings were published on the SAAMI website. In their press release, Wilson Combat express their gratitude to Starline Brass, Western Powders and SIG Sauer for assistance during the development of the cartridge and additionally thank SIG Sauer for submitting the cartridge to SAAMI.
SAAMI Standardizes 12 Gauge 1-3/4″ Ammunition
Vista Outdoors has published a press release announcing that SAAMI (Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute) has approved and issued the 12 Gauge 1-3/4″ cartridge and chamber drawing standards for smoothbore barrels.
