POTD: Norinco UZI Clone
Here is a Norinco M320 UZI clone. Thomas U in the Netherlands posted this up in a pistol caliber carbine group. Look closely. There are a couple interesting things about this UZI Clone.
POTD: UZI Battle Axe?
Garret posted a photo of his Uzi with a custom coupled magazine. He used a Taccom mag coupler to join a 60 round mag to a 40 round mag. Not sure if this would feed 100 rounds but I would like to see him try.
POTD: The Great Wall Of NFA
This is my friend’s wall of NFA fun. He is an FFL. This is only 1 of three walls. Mostly everything there is select fire or NFA of some sort. Most have been converted while the KRISS Vector and H&K UMP are bonafide machine guns from factory. I took this photo while filling out paper work for an Alpha Dog silencer that I am getting.
IDF Special Forces Video
This video has gratuitous amounts of Tavor and Micro UZIs throughout the video. I think I saw a Negev belt fed.
POTD: +8rd COLT/UZI Mag Extension
My friend Brian M. sent this picture to me. He and I always like higher capacity especially for USPSA and 3Gun. Around the same time as my Scorpion Evo3 +10 extension, Brian had the idea to make an extension for Colt/UZI SMG magazines. It is a +8rd extension making the Colt/UZI mag hold 40rds of 9mm. He drew this up and 3D printed it in his home. He successfully tested it fed all 40 rds.
Cracking the Machine Pistol's Code: Is a Useful Fully Automatic Handgun Possible?
In a previous article on TFB, we compared a Mauser 712 Schnellfeuer to a Glock 17 with an auto sear, and along the way discussed how very limited the usefulness of the modern machine pistol is. Fully automatic pistol-sized weapons have been around for over a hundred years, but they’ve only ever seen limited use in specialist roles, with their adoption and then subsequent abandonment coming seemingly in waves as departments and forces pick up the concept and then discard it upon learning how impractical the weapons are in actual use. The history of machine pistols is fascinating, and those who are interested can follow the link to a podcast I participated in on the subject to learn more.
The Uzi Submachine Gun (Full Auto)
The famous Uzi 9mm SMG was introduced to the world in the 1950s, and was a huge hit that made its way into military and police armories around the world. With millions sold, the gun has been engaged in numerous conflicts and famously helped protect the life of President Reagan. The gun’s proliferation is a result of the low cost, ease of manufacture, and merits as a fine submachine gun. In this episode of TFBTV, we take a look at what makes the Uzi deserving of its reputation as a great gun.
Operating Systems 201: Telescoping Bolts
Previously in TFB’s series on weapon operating mechanisms, we examined both the closed-bolt blowback system and the open-bolt API blowback system, two very close relatives that share a common feature: Closure of the breech through the inertia of the breechblock mass alone. What this means for small arms designers is that they must engineer a system where the breechblock is large enough to have sufficient mass, while having enough room to reciprocate the distance necessary for reliable ejection and feeding. In a standard submachine gun design using the API blowback system, for example, the breechblock is configured behind the breech end of the barrel, so that it can reciprocate. This is an easy design to engineer, and can be made simply and easily.
Operating Systems 101: API Blowback Operation
Previously on Operating Systems 101, we discussed the straight blowback method of firearms operation; today we’ll be talking about its close cousin, API blowback. “API” stands for advance primer ignition, which refers to the chief way that the mechanism differs from its pure cousin. We’ll get to that in a bit, but first we need to discuss the concepts of open bolt and closed bolt operation.
POTD: Vintage Max-11 Project
Distalradius on Uzitalk forums posted up this gem of a Max-11 that he customized with wooden furniture. He wanted a stock with the right LOP and drop to allow him to get a proper sight picture with the aftermarket uppers such as the Lage upper on there now. For more information and pictures, you can see them in the thread on Uzitalk.
Uzi Run and Gun (Full Auto)
The Israeli made Uzi submachinegun is perhaps one of the most famous SMGs of all time. Simple, easy to use, and portability allowed the proliferation of millions of units around the globe. In this episode of TFBTV, we take the famous UZI 9mm to the run and gun course to see how it will perform.
Uzi SMG Field Strip
The famous Uzi submachinegun is a brilliantly simple firearm that is straight blowback and fires from an open bolt. While it was not the first firearm to feature a telescoping bolt, it certainly took the concept and ran with it. The Uzi was an international sales success, and if you grew up in the 80s then you certainly remember seeing all the action heroes running around with one in their hands.
So what makes the Uzi tick?
Gun Review: The IWI Uzi Pro
Pistols based on rifles or submachine guns are nothing new to the shooting world. They occupy a niche market, generally where collectors cross over with those who want something more compact than a rifle but without the paperwork of an SBR. Because these pistols make sacrifices to meet legal requirements, many see them as “neither fish nor fowl”, but equally they have their defenders as well, who argue that they’re more effective than traditional handguns, but smaller than rifles.
