Texas Constitutional Carry Is Official, Will Begin in September
As of the time of this writing, twenty US states officially recognize their residents’ inherent right to bear arms without the imposition of governmental permitting hurdles. Vermont led by example in this area, thanks to the particularly narrow wording of its state Constitution. Vermont’s legal language has never allowed for state-level restrictions on methods of firearms carry, so it is considered the first of America’s fifty states to recognize that the Constitution essentially serves as Americans’ permit – more by intrinsic prevention than by the retroactive action that other states have had to employ subsequently. For decades, Vermont stood alone in this distinction. TFB has covered some Constitutional Carry-related news from time to time, and a sampling of those past articles is listed below.

Texas Permitless Carry on the Horizon? 3 Bills are Currently on the Line
It seems the big theme of the year is Permitless Carry. The State of Texas has recently seen 3 new bills come into play in regards to carrying a concealed handgun without a permit. Currently, Texans are allowed to carry a concealed firearm within their own property which includes their vehicles. Texas also allows the open carrying of long guns in public. However, yet to be allowed is the right to carry a concealed firearm on oneself without the issuance of a permit. The three new NRA-backed bills that have been introduced would allow Texas permitless carry to go from being an idea to a reality.
A Texas Senator is Attempting to make the Bowie the Official State Knife
A Texas Senator has recently introduced a companion resolution to one previously filed (HCR1) that would have made the Bowie Knife the official State knife of Texas. Despite the previously introduced resolution passing with bipartisan support in 2019, Governor Greg Abbott vetoed the resolution because of a glaring historical error contained within.
"Summertime Silence" Demo and Vendor Event by Silencer Shop and Texas Ordnance Depot
Since opening its doors in 2010, Austin, Texas-based Silencer Shop has proven to be a key player in the recent explosion of the suppressor market. Their efforts and innovations have done as much or more to make suppressors accessible than anyone else in the game. This accessibility and increased demand can then, in turn, be credited in large part with the proliferation of more manufacturers producing a supply of cans of ever-increasing quality at all price points from affordable to extravagant. If you’d asked previous generations whether they thought silencers would reach current levels of popularity, it’s doubtful whether they would’ve believed it. Although things aren’t perfect, in all we still live in a pretty great time to shoot quietly. Continuing their work to bring suppressors to the people, Silencer Shop is preparing to co-host a demo event on July 18th at Texas Ordnance Depot in Hico, Texas. The “Summertime Silence” official event description reads:
Unique Homemade Decorative Gun Cabinet For An AR-15
Redditor Flatout93 recently built his own homemade decorative gun cabinet, which he said was his first attempt at building anything with wood and nails for himself. The rugged look of the wood and paint gives it a cool look on the wall, although Flatout93 recognized that the external hinges and no lock don’t exactly make it ideal for storing a firearm. Given that this was his first attempt though, I’d say he’s off to a great start.
POTD: Texas Dove Hunt, First Person Shooter Mode
This Photo Of The Day comes to us from Redditor “AnotherFishTail”. The photo was from a screen capture from AnotherFishTail’s GoPro video camera. Despite the grainier composition of the photo, it still captures the spirit of the moment and allows the viewer to imagine they were there. The photo of the dove hunt seems to broadcast the heat of the sun, the dust in the air, and the flutter of dove’s wings.

TFB Lightning Review: Ranger Point Precision's 1894 Extractor Claw: No Case Left Behind!
Recently, Houston, TX’s Ranger Point Precision reached out to me about a product they had been diligently developing for some time: an upgraded extractor claw for the Marlin 1894. The original Marlin 1894 extractor looks like a bobby pin, and works just about as well. Besides poorly made levers, the original extractor was the main cause of the “hitchy” feeling many 1894s have during the cycling of the action. Another side effect of the old extractors is they can fail entirely to extract cases. RPP’s new extractor fixes these problems with a whole new design. Filling the extractor channel completely, with an integral compression coil spring, these new extractors engage far more of the cartridge rim, and make cycling the action far faster, smoother and more reliable.
[SHOT 2016] STI's Costa Carry Comp 2011
The Texas 1911 wizards otherwise known as STI have partnered with Chris Costa to offer a Costa Carry Comp STI 2011. Not only is it stunningly good looking but it feels like it was put together by German jewlers or something. Simply amazing. I couldn’t resist a chance to take a closer look again at my fellow Texan’s wares. When they offered a chance to shoot them it would have been downright rude to say no.
