DoctorKote makes FBI spec ballistics gelatin targets along with their CeraKote business. They have recently released two gelatin targets shaped like a Lego minifigure and Han Solo in Carbonite.

Hill & Mac Gunworks had on display a very interesting and innovative electronic target system, featuring a wireless reset function. The system is powered by AA batteries, and is capable of rising from a falling position in about 1.5 seconds, as well as powered falling to keep shooters on their toes when engaging multiple targets on the range.

For those looking for more action than a real watermelon or soda can can provide, Daisy has released their oozing targets. Meant for BB rifles (convenient for Daisy), the targets are “reusable and long-lasting”.The slime is non-toxic, non-staining, and fully biodegradable.

Normally I shoot on steel. I’ve also created some cheap wooden stand bases with 2″x4″s. The problem with both of those systems is that they are heavy and awkward.

Wired has published a fascinating photo essay on the targets used by the world’s militarys. German photographer Herlinde Koelbl worked with militaries around the world to gain access to their shooting ranges and explore their target systems.

Last week I was standing in the isle of my local sporting store looking to get a pack of targets.  I was looking for a silhouette type target to do some rifle and handgun training with.  Standing there with a three pack of cardboard targets I had an epiphany.  Why am I going to spend $4.99 on this package filled with cardboard?  I have always been a fan of DIY shooting projects, even going to far as to design and print my own sight-in targets.  I always figure the more I save on everything else, the more shooting I can do.

RTS Target Systems are manufacturing a wireless hit counter compatible with their entire range of targets. A sensor is attached to the target that transmits the hit count to the RTS Numerator LED display. The RTS Numerator is controlled by a remote which can cycle the display to show the hit counts up to nine targets individually. A company called Zombie Industries is manufacturing 3D targets that bleed when shot. I did spoke to a police officer yesterday who told me that he thought they would be a great training aid. For me personally, they are way to gruesome.
