New Swarovski Smartscope – dS 5-25×52 P Gen II

I attended Swarovski’s online press conference and apart from various binoculars the only new riflescope was an updated version of the dS 5-25×52. This is already an amazing product as it is, but things can always be improved upon and that is what Swarovski has done. Apart from a slimmer design and a new battery turret, it is now possible to choose between six different digital reticles. You can also configure which data you want to display.

TFB Review: Swarovski Optics STR80 MRAD/MOA Spotting Scope

A spotting scope may not be an absolute must for long range hunters and competitors, but it sure is a nice addition to your setup. To be able to call your or your friend’s shots to give him impact point corrections you also need a reticle, a feature that most normal spotting scopes lack.

Review: The new Aimpoint ACRO P-1 with Spuhr Interface

I’ve had the Aimpoint ACRO P-1 now for a while. I didn’t realize I was one of the first ones to get one, so I took no hurry in my evaluation. On the other hand, there are some benefits with evaluating products over time rather than just over the day.

NEW: Swarovski gets "Smart" for the 21st century with the dS scope

The scene opens with a well dressed pair of gentlemen off the coast of the Isle of Mull, an island in the Hebrides with a population of red stag.  Beginning their stalk, they are armed not with an engraved J. Rigby or Westley Richards, but a (dead sexy) suppressed Sauer 404 Synchro XTC with a rather unusual scope on top.  The scope ranges the (CGI) stag, and adjusts automatically for distance, angle, air pressure and temperature in real time as the stag moves.  This is the new Swarovski dS.

POTD: Rooftop Norwegians with Barret M82 .50 BMG

The Barrett M82 in .50 BMG isn’t the first firearm I think of to be used in urban sniping for a number of reasons, but the Soldiers from the Norwegian Homeguard seem to be on a limitless budget.

Its About Time – Binocular Spotting Scope from Swarovksi

With 10x binoculars able to take care of most spotting work at the 100 yard line, I constantly found myself questioning why higher magnification spotting scopes have not kept the two-eyes open option. While yes, I understand that under previous thought it may have taken two separate and well-aligned tubes to get an excellent image, along has come Swarovski to shatter the paradigm.

Review: Swarovski Z8i and BTF turret-Woe betide the Crepuscular

The world of optics keeps evolving by leaps and bounds.  New in the past year or so is a selection of 8x zoom optics from a number of companies, one of those being Swarovski.  Swarovski Optik, purveyor of fine glass, had released their new Z8 scopes at IWA 2016.  As previously covered by TFB’s Eric B., the Z8 line comes in four variants: 1-8×24, 1.7-13.3×32, 2-16×50, and 2.3-18×56.  I was looking for a super high quality hunting scope, and after looking through an example of the Z8 line decided to bite the bullet and invest in the scope despite it’s great cost.  I chose the 2-16×50 Z8i (the “i” is for illuminated) with their BRX-I reticle model, as it would cover all of the possible hunting scenarios I could find myself or my guests hunting in.
