Last November, I had the opportunity to attend Gunsite for a media event put on by Lockdown. The main focus of the event was the new SecureWall product. After the event’s conclusion, the attendees were all sent a starter kit to build our own “gun room” (well, a good start anyway).

Hello and welcome back to  The RImfire Report. In this weekly series, we explore, research, and discuss various topics surrounding the rimfire firearm world. This week we’ll be discussing storing rimfire ammo for long periods of time. It’s no secret that the current global climate has led to not only ammunition supply chain shortages but also a lot of panic buying. So if you’ve recently purchased possibly tens of thousands of rounds of rimfire ammunition and are looking to store it properly, we’ll give you a brief yet detailed guide here.

MTM Case-Gard is a family owned company in operation since 1968. I use a few of their ammunition boxes and they are really well built, with the possibility to stack the boxes.

Early last year we highlighted some of the work done high-end concealment furniture maker QLine Design.  Almost unanimously, readers were impressed with the style, precision and craftsmanship of the fine tables, nightstands and dressers that have hidden compartments for firearms and other valuables. The one stumbling point for most us was budget – with pieces taking three people working multiple weeks to build, prices quickly reach into the thousands.

Tactical Walls has been a regular at Big 3 East and this year they showed off their latest in concealed storage.

Sentinel, Inc. has announced the Identilock firearms locking system is now shipping and available through Cabela’s. The gun locking system is unique in its approach to firearms access leaving the locked handgun accessible except for the locked and covered trigger guard. The Identilock is unlocked using common fingerprint readers which is accessed by the trigger finger, which Sentinel claims is read and unlocked in less than 300 milliseconds (or .3 seconds for those on the Imperial system).

Years of living in a state that does not allow the civilian ownership of silencers introduced me to the world of suppressed precision airguns. And if you thought the accessory market in the “powder burner” realm was stacked deep with must-haves, the airgun options are a close second. Case in point, in the woods, at the range or out hunting, you don’t want to be digging in your pocket for pellets. What you need is a Wilkins leather ammo pouch.

I truly enjoy level 1 holsters. When properly designed and manufactured like much of the high-end Kydex offerings today, the friction-only retention offers fantastic performance in concealable packages. These holsters and their Q/D systems are equally good in my other carry locations including personally owned vehicle, nightstand, etc. They work well for the guy running a single system for all his carry options.

James Purdey and Sons Ltd. released three videos about how to clean the shotgun and treat it for storage. The first video is about the barrel cleaning.

I have been eyeing a long-gun secure storage solution for a while now and have yet to find anything that meets my needs. I have a safe, but I’d like something in a small form factor that is hardened to a degree, locks, but is quick to open.  Have any ideas? Vapen Solutions has released the QVR – the security of a safe with the size and compact shape of a half-size locker.

Brown Safe, a “luxury” safe company, has within the last year started to get into the tactical firearms market. Rather than dipping their toes into the market with a single offering, Brown has gone whole-hog with the option of no less than 5 safes, including a rather interesting double-doors model, ranging from 10 guns to 44 guns.

A couple of months back I did an install of a Tactical Walls RFID shelf ( along with a write up). I have been pretty pleased with it and have not had any problems with it–I operate it at least twice a day (staging in the morning, and withdrawing at night).

Remember Gunbox? It is the fancy looking pistol box that doesnt scream “metal box with gun inside”. If not check out Chris Cheng’s review. Gunbox is now making the Sentinel. It is an upright modern looking object that sort of looks like an upright speaker. In fact it has Bluetooth speakers built into it so it is functional and good looking.

TacticalWalls, known for their discreet yet in-plain-sight firearms storage devices has announced the release of their latest models including Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) models. The RFID models will take advantage of a “faster” unlocking mechanism using a standard credit-card sized RFID card.

Gun safes have been on our minds as of late thanks to a recent rush of said safes on the market. Among those recently announced: Winchester’s 150th Anniversary safe and Realtree’s under-the-bed and stackable safe. Just how theft-proof is your safe? Unfortunately for one Missouri gun owner, it wasn’t enough.
