The Ruger SP101 has a long tenure of being a reliable service revolver. They also have chambered it in a pretty wide array of cartridges to give consumers a lot of choices for concealed carry. One element that has been lacking as a factory option though is a blued steel frame. This might be a pretty insignificant change for some people, but not everyone peels open their wallet for stainless sidearms. Sometimes a traditional blued look is the perfect aesthetic appearance for some people. Well, consider that niche filled because you can now purchase a Ruger SP101 .357 Magnum with a blued steel frame.

In today’s episode of TFBTV, we test the myth that 9mm is weaker out of a revolver due to bleed off. We compare ballistics for the 9mm Ruger SP101 agains the S&W 9mm Shield to put this urban legend to the test.

Sturm, Ruger & Co. announced another expansion of its popular SP101 line of revolvers. The new gun has a 3″ barrel and is chambered for the .327 Federal Magnum cartridge. In a way, it is a return to the past.

Ruger has just announced a new model of their popular SP101 revolver line. Chambered in 9mm, this new five-shot wheel gun carries rounds normally reserved for Glocks and HiPoints with an MSRP just above $700. An educated guess would put the street price somewhere around $550.

Ruger is throwing another model into the custom-shop quality circle for their revolvers. The next in line is an SP101 Match Champion.

We’ve all heard that one before, right? “There’s no point to the .357 Magnum in a snubnosed revolver, from a barrel that short you might as well carry a .38.” Well, thanks some some exhaustive testing by Chris Baker and the LuckyGunner Labs team, turns out that’s not really true.

Ruger made a limited number of SP101 revolvers for TALO that are quite a bit fancier than the normal production runs.  The SP101 Deluxe handguns feature intricate scrollwork on the frame, cylinder and barrel.

I would not say that this Talo-exclusive Ruger SP101 is quite my taste, but I can see the appeal.
