We’re now officially into 2024, and that means it’s time for the latest CMP rule changes. Some of these changes were teased earlier but we can now look at the full text. As far as I can tell, these all seem like improvements.

DMRs, or Designated Marksman Rifles, are so hot at the moment. As you can see, our Photo Of The Day reflects this, with some marketing images from Beretta Defense Technologies, as posted on their LinkedIn. The Beretta ARX200 DMR was shown at the World Defense Show in 2022.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program has an absolute unicorn up for auction, a true Mark 13 Mod 3 sniper rifle. This .300 Win Mag looks like it could tell some GWOT war stories if it could talk. It’s not every day that a gun like this is available to the public, so let’s take a look at this rifle.

One of the most interesting is the USMC 8x Gen II which is a modern take on the classic Unertl target scope. Let’s see how this revival of a legend performs.

In today’s Photo Of The Day, we see an Irish Defence Forces sniper team in action at the U.S. Army International Sniper Competition in Fort Benning, Georgia earlier this year. The firearm is a Remington Sniper Rifle, probably borrowed by the hosts, with a Leupold riflescope.

Photo Of The Day and we have images from Óglaigh na hÉireann or Irish Defence Forces. These pictures are from the Defence Forces International Sniper Competition 2022. For sniping, they use the Accuracy International 92 (AI AW) and the Accuracy International AWM. The riflescope looks very much like a Schmidt & Bender, or do you have other ideas?

TFB’s Photo Of The Day loves sniper competitions and we hope they love us back. If you’re not busy doing something else in the beginning of March next year, you may gather your team and join the Best Sniper Winter 2022 competition.

Photo Of The Day: Airborne sniping is a special thing and probably one of the most difficult tasks for any target shooter. Here we’re looking at the power of the 12.7x99mm round (.50 BMG) in the Hécate 2 Long-range anti-material rifle made by PGM Precision in France. Note the rather large suppressor and the arm that supports the rifle.

In 2019 TFB were the first to discover the new Heckler & Koch HK417P model. To the best of our knowledge, this is the rifle we’re looking at in the front row. The HK417P was made for Austria and is a combination of the HK417 assault rifle and G28 precision rifle. It is a semi-automatic only rifle.

Photo Of The Day: Right above is a German soldier engaging long-range targets in the middle of the night. He’s using a Remington Mk 21 Precision Sniper Rifle at the International Specialty Training Center (ISTC) Alpine Sniper Course, in Hochfilzen training area, Austria. The Alpine Sniper Course went on for two weeks and was designed to teach and train sniper teams the necessary skills to operate in mountainous terrain.

Hille James Combat Photographer appears again in our Photo Of The Day, a welcome return. We’re used to seeing his great photos from Afghanistan, but this time he appears from an unexpected place: Mali, a landlocked country in the Saharan and Sahelian regions. Above we can see two Dutch Special Forces soldiers. The shooting position is rather unusual, but should still work quite well. With a good support, usually with the help of a good bipod, you can get far. If you add the support of a good spotter with a set of good binoculars, you’re all set.

The Swedish Army is looking for a New Multi-Caliber Sniper Weapon System, until then they are using the Accuracy International AI AW (PSG 90B) in 7.62×51 mm. The riflescope is usually a Schmidt & Bender 3-12×50 PMII. The Swedish rifle is the Arctic Warfare version of the British L96A1, and it was adopted in 1990. The European Best Sniper Team Competition is over but continues to deliver amazing photos for TFB’s Photo Of The Day. The videos I’ve seen from this competition show some really difficult and demanding stages, to differentiate the teams from each other. Here we can see Greek snipers searching and engaging targets during the European Best Sniper Team Competition at Hohenfels, Germany, (Aug. 11, 2021).
