Rocket Pod Whistling Shotgun Slugs
There’s a lot of crazy homemade shotgun slug vids on YouTube, remember the Juicer 12g Slugs? Or the Q-Tip Shotgun Slugs? There was also the awesome Folding Fin 12 Ga “Missile” from a while back as well. The popular YouTuber Taofledermaus known for his crazy custom shotgun slug vids is at it again with something pretty interesting. This time around they have the “Rocket Pod” shotgun slugs made by Tim Hamilton another YouTuber who runs Tactical G-Code. The 18 gram Rocket Pod shotgun slug has a carbide core and has holes on the front that looks straight out of the rocket pods from a Soviet helicopter gunship from Rambo III that should cause it to whistle in flight, hence the name of the slugs.
The "Juicer" Shotgun Slug
I had not originally intended to post this video but after seeing it begin to make a semi-regular appearance on social media, I changed my mind. Its appearance was accompanied with the words “Gotta get me some of these!” rather frequently, a statement withdrawn on more than one occasion after the original poster actually viewed the video. So what is making the rounds on social media in the gun world now? It’s the Juicer, and it’s a shotgun slug courtesy of none other than Taofledermaus.
Debunking – or Proving – Urban Home-Defense Legends With Hickok45
Home defense is one of the leading reasons for many gun purchases, partly because many people who either do not bother or are not comfortable carrying concealed still want to have a firearm in their home. That’s a discussion for another day, though. Today we’re taking a look at the ins and outs of a household appliance for providing cover. Remember, there’s a difference between cover and concealment, and there are also a number of stories and hypotheses going around regarding the ability of various appliances or pieces of furniture in those areas. Understanding the difference is important as is taking it into consideration in a home defense situation.
Taofledermaus' Vapor-Trail Shotgun Slug
You can always count on YouTuber Taofledermaus for new, interesting, and/or random shotshell creations. This time he took another shot at creating a shotgun round that would leave a visible vapor trail, utilizing the bulb of a transfer pipette to contain the liquid.
Taofledermaus Tries Q-tips With Shotgun Slugs
Taofledermaus has done a few shotgun-related tests as of late on his Youtube channel, among them being this one, which shows the use of a Q-tip in an attempt to stabilize a shotgun slug. Take a guess at the results before watching this to the end.
Taofledermaus Wants to Know: Can You ID This Mystery Round?
There’s nothing like a mystery round to pique the interest of gun aficionados all around the internet, and thanks to Taofledermaus, of Youtube fame, there’s a new one. A viewer apparently sent Taofledermaus two mystery shotgun slugs, so he took a close look and sent them down-range to find out just what they were capable of doing. The rounds delivered nice penetration capabilities – well, at 100 yards, anyway – it’s just too bad he only had two rounds to work with.
12-Gauge Segmented Slug Showdown – PDX-1 vs. Hexolit-32
I know, I have a bit of a fanboy problem, but when you are as good and thorough as ShootingTheBull410, its hard not to be. Latest in his everlasting lexicon of ammunition tests is now my personal favorite; testing two types of segmented slugs. The first is the venerable PDX-1 line of defense ammunition, and the other a company that I took an interest to at the NRA show last year, Dupleks and their Hexolit 32.
AR500 Steel Armor Plate vs 50 slugs
Demolition Ranch tests out an AR500 armor plate against 50 slugs. The most challenging aspect of this test appears to be finding a method of holding the AR500 steel still for multiple shots.
Homemade Wax Slugs
Iraqveteran8888 demonstrates homemade wax slugs in the below video. To make these slugs you just buy some #8 target shot shells, remove the shot, mix the shot with wax and then pour back into the shotshell. They seem to hit accurate and hard.
Long Range (200+ yard) slug
The below video shows a Benelli Super 90 (modified with standard hunting stock) loaded with 1 oz. Winchester foster-style slugs hitting the target at 230 yards.
Which bullets can penetrate brush?
The Box O’ Truth has tested various cartridges to see what penetrates brush the best. As I hunter I found this is a *very* interesting read as it has been something I have wondered about many times.
