Wheelgun Wednesday: The .476 Caliber Colt SAA Revolver
The Colt Single Action Army revolver is primarily associated with the .45 Colt and .44-40 Winchester cartridges, as these were the cartridges this iconic American wheelgun was predominantly chambered in, with the former being the cartridge the US military adopted the SAA with in 1873 and the latter being probably the most popular chambering for the commercial revolvers. However, over the years, Colt offered the SAA in dozens of different calibers, from .22 to .476. The Colt SAA chambered in .476 Enfield is the largest caliber factory production Colt Single Action Army revolver. In this installment of Wheelgun Wednesday, we’ll take a look at a .476 caliber Colt SAA revolver that is consigned to the upcoming August 2022 Rock Island Premier Firearms Auction.

Syrian Arab Army Receiving HS .50-Patterned Anti-Materiel Rifles
Russian media has reported on the recent acquisition of .50 BMG HS .50 patterned Anti-Materiel rifles by the Syrian Arab Army in the fight against the ongoing insurgent groups within Syria. The article claims that the rifles are assembled from Iranian components shipped to Assad’s army and are most likely to be used in upcoming offensives. From the three photographs we have available, there appears to be at least 120 within a single frame, taken from inside an armory with the HS .50, or more correctly the Iranian version with the nomenclature of AM50 or Sayyad-2. One item not present with the rifles is a powered optic, which will most likely be added at a later date. What would make this story interesting is if Iran is also supplying RU60G thermal optics to the rifles, enabling Syrian marksmen to make shots out to several hundred meters at night. Although the Iranian version and the original HS .50 are chambered in .50 BMG,12.7x99mm, one of the cases is clearly marked with the Russian 12.7x108mm cartridge, showing a different chambering of the design.

Syrian Developed Tracked RC Weapons Platform
Two Arabic news sources ( Military-Zones, Middle East Panamera) have published independent posts about a remote control vehicle currently at least in the developmental phase of design within the highly contested Aleppo province in Syria. The designers are in areas still in control by Assad’s Syrian Arab Army, and have been working with the SAA in the hopes of a purchase. Originally it was constructed due to Syrian troops taking casualties in the current fight against numerous rebel and terrorist groups operating throughout Syria and especially in Aleppo province. The group mentioned backing the project is the Aleppo Chamber of Industry, however, this is from the Google Translation and is most likely a translation error instead of any actual organization.
