Bermuda's Unique SA80s
In 2015, the Royal Bermuda Regiment began to field the British L85A2 bullpup. Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory and is one of several territories to have its own British Army-affiliated home defence regiment. The regiment’s transition to the L85A2 was completed in early 2016, with the replacement of the last Ruger Mini-14s which had been in service since 1983. If you haven’t seen our earlier video/article looking at the Royal Bermuda Regiment’s Mini-14 service rifles, do check it out.

Above you see a British soldier firing his SA80 during the Vigilant Fox exercise in Finland, with an interesting mix of firearms from around the world.
Ukrainian Troops with British SA80s
The UK is currently providing basic infantry training to up to 10,000 Ukrainian troops. We have already covered the UK’s procurement of AK-pattern rifles to train Ukrainian personnel but in this article, we will look at how Ukrainian troops have also been training with the UK’s SA80/L85 bullpup rifles.
POTD: The L129A1 Sharpshooter Rifle in Cyprus
A sunny trip to Cyprus is what’s on offer in today’s Photo Of The Day. The L129A1 is a semi-automatic high-precision designated marksmanship rifle.
POTD: Royal Marines with Heckler & Koch G36 and SA80
Have you taken your vitamins today? As you know vitamins have several important functions for our bodies. Some say they are almost as important as a daily dose of TFB’s Photo Of The Day, and we agree of course. Today we have some cracking pictures from the Royal Marines (United Kingdom) during an exercise in Lithuania in 2021.
POTD: Storm Barra – Welsh Guards with Heckler & Koch SA80 A3

We intend to continue doing so in 2022, and as you most likely discovered, we already got started. Today we have pictures of Welsh Guards. For more information about the Welsh Guards and their upgraded firearms please check this story Welsh Guards Armoury Upgrade – Heckler & Koch SA80 A3. Book Review: Thorneycroft to SA80 – British Bullpup Firearms 1901-2020
Jonathan Ferguson’s new book on British bullpup rifles is one I’ve been waiting a long time for. Five years ago I wrote my Master’s thesis on the development of the early Cold War British bullpup rifle, the E.M.2, and the politics which engulfed it. It’s just over 40 years since Thomas Dugleby published his book on ‘EM-2 Concept & Design: A Rifle Ahead of Its Time’. For many years Dugelby’s book, published by Collector Grade Publications, represented the best published collection of information about Britain’s ill-fated bullpup.
British Army Makes Move To M-LOK as SA80 A3 Receives Tweaks
It appears that a year after the introduction of the newly upgraded SA80 A3 the British Army is introducing a series of small but significant tweaks to improve weapons handling. The changes come following user feedback on the SA80 A3 / L85A3 rifles which have been overhauled by Heckler & Koch in a contract worth £15 million (or nearly $19 million).
POTD: US Troops Get to Grips with British Bullpups
Today’s Photo of the Day sees US troops stationed in Poland get to grips with some British small arms. Men from two cavalry regiments – one British, one American, took part in a familiarisation exercise at Bemowo Piskie, in Poland, on 30th April 2020. The two units are part of NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence that consists of four battalion-sized battle groups deploying on a persistent rotational basis to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland to demonstrate the alliance’s determination and ability to act as one in response to any aggression against its members.
POTD: Royal Scots Dragoon Guards
