Hornady has already announced some of their products late last year but they are new for 2023. First up is the new Hornady 7mm PRC cartridge offerings. There are at least 30 gun builders chambering rifles for this caliber. Here is the list from their website.

While reloading and hand-tailoring ammunition will give you the most accuracy for a specific rifle you own not everyone has the time, means or knowledge to do that. So Hornady, with their Precision Hunter line of ammo, have looked to fill that void of highly accurate ammo already boxed on the shelf for consumers.

This year I was fortunate to have saved up enough to rebarrel my .308 18″ barrel Surgeon Scalpel.  I opted to go with a 24″ 1/8 twist PROOF Research Carbon Fiber Wrapped barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor.   Ever since my awesome experience with MPA’s 6.5CM BA Lite, I had been interested in acquiring a 6.5 Creedmoor rifle of my own.  I had two bolt action precision rifles chambered in .308 with short bull barrels, and I had been saving for a PROOF barrel for some time.  Therefore, instead of purchasing a totally new rifle, I thought the Surgeon would be an excellent candidate for re-barreling.  Georgia’s Collier Rifles (a great place for cutting/threading services as well) had the barrel I was looking for, and off my rifle went to be re-barreled in a timely fashion.

Hornady, like many companies, had a lot up their sleeves at the recent NRA meetings. They basically expanded in three bread ‘n butter categories: reloading dies, reloading bullets and ammunition. The 5 new products they introduced help to round out these categories and satisfy shooters with more unique caliber desires.

Last year, Hornady introduced its ELD-X line of bullets and the Precision Hunter line of loaded ammunition that uses them. The concept behind the bullets is match grade accuracy with great terminal performance. There is a more detailed explanation of the bullet technology here.

It just wouldn’t be SHOT Show coverage without mention of the Hornady ELD-X (Extremely Low Drag-eXpanding). The brand new round has serious promise for hunters considering it offers highest-in-class ballistic coefficients and reliable expansion at not just a variety of distances but all distances. Hornady themselves explain it best: “At conventional range (0-400 yards), the ELD-X bullet is designed to continually expand throughout its penetration path. Upon impact the thin nose section of the bullet peels back and sheds material until it reaches the thick shank of the bullet jacket where the InterLock ring works to keep the core and jacket together. The remaining heavy shank of the bullet continues to drive forward and expand for extremely lethal results.

Last week we shared a video from Hornady that gave broad but enticing promises of a new, exciting technology to come. Considering the source – Hornady has been coming up with innovative ammunition ideas for more than 60 years now – it was definitely a promising moment, and now the official announcement has been made. Hornady’s new tech? The ELD-X, or eXtremely Low Drag – eXpanding, with the company’s own Heat Shield Technology.
