Modern Personal Defense Weapon Calibers 009: The .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire
So far in the Modern PDW Calibers series we’ve talked about small caliber, high velocity PDW rounds like the 5.7mm FN and 4.6mm HK, and we’ve tackled larger, punchier calibers like the 10mm Norma Auto and the 7.5mm FK. However, we still have not tackled the very extreme low end of the spectrum, that is rounds that are so small and impotent that many question their usefulness as antipersonnel rounds at all. However, small size brings with it some benefits in recoil and round weight, so it’s worth taking a closer look at this kind of round.
Heckler & Koch P30SK Shooting Review
Heckler & Koch’s recently released P30SK is the subcompact version of their hammer-fired mid-sized P30 9mm handgun. The P30SK shares its basic design features with the P30, but has a shorter 3.27″ barrel and shorter grip with a 10-round double stack magazine. Roughly comparable to a Glock 26, the P30SK features the same ambidextrous safety as the P30S model, as well as a decocking button at the rear of the slide. The P30SK comes in six models with three different kinds of trigger groups (any of the three available with or without night sights), including P30SK LEM “V1” light DAO, P30SK “V3” DA/SA without safety but with decocker, and P30SKS “V3” DA/SA with safety and decocker. The model I received for T&E was the P30SKS V3 model with night sights.

Heckler & Koch P30 CM (Non-Lethal Paintball Marker)
Heckler & Koch manufacture a non-lethal paintball shooting version of their H&K P30 pistol for law enforcement training. The P30 CM fires 11.4mm caliber paintballs filled with food dye. Like gas powered airsoft pistols, the magazine holds the paintballs and the propellent. The propellent interestingly enough is compressed air, not C02 or propane, allowing H&K to market this as having zero CO2 emissions (yes, it says this on the card in the photo below).
