Daniel Defense 32rd Magazine

Daniel Defense unveiled their new 32 round polymer magazine at the NRAAM. At first glance the idea of a 32rd magazine seems like a waste. Why bother making a magazine with a meager increase in capacity? First thought is you can load a full 30 rounds without having to download like most people do with 30rd magazines. I have experienced a few issues trying to load a full 30 rds on a closed bolt of an AR or the IWI Tavor and too often someone chimes in and says to download two rounds. Well now with Daniel Defense’s magazine you can have 30 rounds.

The Myth of David Marshall "Carbine" Williams and the M1 Carbine

As it often happens, the exploits of a team of talented individuals is often attributed to that of one person. In a good example, many think of Eugene Stoner as the inventor of the AR-15, which is largely true (though some would argue that Jim Sullivan and the team had a significant amount of input). On the opposite side, its not the case with David Marshall “Carbine” Williams who is attributed design credit on the M1 carbine. Turns out that he was quite distant from the project.

Firearms Food for Thought: Muzzle Awareness

If you have ever taken a basic handgun safety course or perused the NRA’s website, you should be familiar with them. Actually, if you have been around the firearms world at any greater length or depth than only topical interest, you should be familiar with them. They’re the four golden rules of firearms safety and although there are multiple versions thanks to varied wording, the gist remains the same: 1) Keep your finger off the trigger until you are on target, 2) Treat all guns as though they are loaded, 3) Know your target and what is beyond it, and 4) Never point your gun at anything you are not willing to destroy.

NRA's Gun of the Week – Browning .380 ACP 1911

I’ve been following the little Black Label .380 1911 for some time now, enthralled at the idea of a lighter daily carry 1911. While some may bemoan the caliber, I am perfectly confident in its ability to do what is needed, especially from a 4.250″ barrel which puts muzzle velocities at nearly 9mm levels.

NRA: Firearms Science Series

I love it when complicated topics and broken down Barney-style. Maybe I am that dumb (as my wife contends) or that it appeals to my old Leatherneck tendencies. The NRA has been working on a series of barney-style videos from their Firearms Science Series. They are short videos using simple explanations and plenty of graphics to explain complex topics.

NRA Opens Steampunk Exhibit

The NRA museum has a variety of exhibits that give gun aficionados a glimpse into the lengthy history of firearms. New for 2015 is a steampunk exhibit, which the NRA says will give visitors a chance to see both the creative results of artists’ designs along with a few of the more unique real guns out there. Steampunk is a sci-fi subgenre meant to give fans the fun of sci-fi effects and gadgets with a Victorian-era twist. It’s gained in popularity in recent years and the NRA exhibit will probably draw quite a few visitors.

Crimson Trace's Laser Sights Training Video

In 1994, Crimson Trace came out with their first product – an internal system for Glocks – in 1996, they launched their patented LaserGrips at SHOT Show, and today they sell more than 200 high-quality laser sights. There are uses to laser sights beyond the obvious (they create a bright pinpoint of light), and in order to help consumers install and utilize their products to the fullest, Crimson Trace has come out with a training video. The video was made at Gunsite, Col. Jeff Cooper’s firearms academy, and can be used both by private shooters and as a training aid in classes.

New NRA MAG-LOCK Pistol Case

The NRA has come out with a pistol case they say gives the protection of a hard-shell case in soft-sided form. The case apparently utilizes their patented MAGLOCK liner to mold to the outline of your gun and magazine, should you choose to store a mag separately from your gun, creating a seal which holds the gun firmly in place. Because the gun will be held snugly within the case, shifting is prevented which also prevents the scratching and scuffing that can occur with certain types of cases. The inside of the case is also lined with felt for additional protection during storage.

The First Official NRA AR-15

It’s a first in NRA history: a limited-run AR-15 is being released that is officially licensed by the NRA. It’s the first AR-15 ever to be endorsed by the organization and with only 1,000 being made it’s going to go incredibly fast. The gun is being manufactured by Black Rain Ordnance and the NRA name will be placed on two spots on the finished AR-15s. “NRA 1817″ will be printed in white letters on the dust cover and the complete logo will be placed on the magazine well. The gun will have a 6-position shoulder stock, a 16” stainless steel fluted barrel, and a custom aluminum handguard, among other features. Whether you’re a member of the NRA or just a fan of well-made AR-15’s, this one is worth a look.
